I would like to see us try and get JO with either Bynum, Kwame and salary fillers or Kwame and Lamar (as much as it pains me to write it). JO has a game that is tailor made for the 4 spot in the triangle and he is a great shotblocker. Hopefully Mihm will be back at the center spot and we can use the MLE on a PG like Mo Williams. I would like to see if we could do a sign and trade with Walton and Pietrus as well, Walton is great at running the offense but he is still a liability on defense and we have too many of them already at the 3 with Vlade.
If we start the season with:
PG - Williams / Farmar
SG - Kobe / Evans / Sasha
SF - Walton (Pietrus) / Vlad
PF - JO / Odom / Cook
C - Mihm / Turiaf
I'd be pretty happy. Our defense would be much improved and we have guys that can play multiple positions, Odom can play 3 and 4, JO can play 4 and 5 (same with Turiaf), Pietrus can play 2 and 3 (same with Kobe). I like our improved defense and versatility with that line up.

Did you guys hear Derron Williams and Boozer talking about the Jazz players that had vacations scheduled for next week? They had already given up the series before it was over. No wonder they got stomped last night. They were also talking about players that "don't want to be on the Jazz". I can't help but think Kirilenko is one of these guys.

I've read quite alot about a JO trade and i have to say the more i think about it the more i would love it to happen. Either way we have to give up Bynum or Odom which i would hate to do but the fact of the matter is that JO is an all star who is a competitor. How many guys do we have on the roster who can boast that? Exactly, only Kobe.
KG is the home run but that aint happening, so JO is the next best thing. He provides low post and high post scoring, he would be the best shot blocker we have on the team, he is a double digit rebounder and probably the most important thing is that he plays hard and he has that swagger that great players have. No one outside of Kobe on our team has that swagger, Lamar is great and he has all the skills but he doubts himself too much. Bynum could have a very bright future ahead of him but its still unknown and it doesnt coincide with Kobe's unfortunately.
The sad thing in all of this is that for 3yrs we had the chances to get better but the front office were too scared to take chances. Thats why Kobe is pissed, we had the chance to get the talent but again and again the top dogs shit their pants and played it safe. We could have had a starting line up of:
PG - B-Diddy
SG - Kobe
SF - Artest
PF - Boozer
C - Bynum
We probably would have lost Lamar in those trades but we would still of had Caron Butler, add to that Walton, Turiaf, Evans, Farmar and Mihm and that looks a hell of a lot better than what we have now.
I cant understand how people can hate the way the Spurs play, they may not be flashy but they are great to watch if you like seeing solid fundamental basketball. They are incredible to watch when they play team defense, even though they have only one great individual defender in Duncan. Offensively they play to their strengths and get high percentage shots. They put on a clinic against the Jazz yesterday especially in the first half and i have to say that even though im a Laker fan i love to watch them play.
I wish the Lakers could execute on both ends of the floor the way the Spurs do and dont tell me we havent got the personnel to play defense like that, the Spurs are good defensively no matter which 5 they have on the floor. They have each others backs when they play defense and thats how it supposed to be played - "help the helper".
Of all the rivals the Lakers have had i respect the Spurs the most, they play the game the right way. Great team defense and high percentage shots, whats not to like about that.
On another note i'd like to start a petition to get John Barry removed from the NBA shootaround crew, he is completely abysmal. He comes up with all these lame ideas for [team X] to win and then adds no insight on how they are going to achieve it. Also his wise cracks are only funny to him and thats evidenced in the way that everyone else looks blankly while he laughs at his own jokes. How the great Rick Barry's son could be such a douchebag is beyond me.
Jeff Van Gundy has been a pleasant surprise on the commentary both, its always good to hear a great coach break the game down properly. Also Mark Jackson is solid to, i havent heard him much before, but he understands the game and relays whats going on with a good dose of humour thats actually funny (take note John Barry). I would prefer Hubie Brown (my all time favourite) over all of them but i like the guys they have working with Breen at the moment.

It's mainly because we're sick of seeing them dominate. I'm just tired of seeing them in the Finals every other year. I want them to face some adversity. It's like the little miss perfect in your school. Would you say she is polite, good mannered, and dignified? No, you would say she is snotty, arrogant, and just..........perfect at everything. She would annoy you, wouldn't she?
And they tend to get away with a lot of things. One being how Robert Horry benefited his team by body checking Nash, and having the league give them a huge boost. Even after all that, I hear Popovich say "That was a clean foul, nothing unordinary." The guy's nuts, and the most arrogant person in the world if he thinks that Horry's foul was anything but dirty. If it were a member of the Suns doing it to Horry, Popovich would have jumped off his seat.
And don't get me started with all the hand checks, body checks, and kicks that Bowen gets away with. He does it all the time, and the league says "whatever." And this guy gets praised for being the elite defender, what a joke! He defends with his hands, and he gets rewarded for it.
So, it's the just the nature of the team. Obviously, they are very disciplined and fundamentally sound, but so are other teams. There are other teams that play defense and have great work ethic. Not just the Spurs. But the reason that they're not as successful may be because they just don't have as much firepower and talent as the Spurs.
Sometimes the Spurs are depicted as if they're angels that are in a seperate league or something, which I don't get. That's why I don't like them. I'm not one of those people who say "How can you possibly like the Spurs?" I just humbly dislike them, that's all.
Im under no illusions that the Spurs benefit from some favorable decisions but that falls squarely on the league to do something about it if they see fit. I dont blame the Spurs for taking advantage of the boy scout image that the league has created for them, any team would do the same.
What is undeniable is the excellent way they play the game, when they are clicking it is a beautiful thing to watch. From a personal standpoint as a long time Laker fan only the Celtics have caused me more heartache than the Spurs but if i put aside my bias i have to appreciate the way they play the game.
As for Horry's hard foul, yes it was bad but no body asked Amare and Diaw to leave the bench. I understand they wanted to check on their teammate but they also know the rules. Posey hit Hinerich with a hard foul last year but the bench stayed put, Tinkerbell clotheslined Kobe last year and again the bench stayed put because they knew what would happen if they didnt. I hate the rule myself but until the NBA changes it you cant blame them for enforcing it playoffs or not.
Now Bowen would have been a decent defender 10-15 yrs ago when handchecking was a way of life but in todays NBA he should foul out in 5mins flat with the way he plays defense. He does move his feet well but what he gets away with from the waist up is ridiculous when you have different laws for every other perimeter defender. The only other guy i've seen get away with stuff like that is Prince in the 04 finals but i'll leave that one alone because im not trying to make excuses for us being well beaten in that series.
Bottom line the Spurs get it done year after year, they dont make massive adjustments to the roster but they bring in smart vets who do the little things to win games. They play great team ball on both ends and regardless of the leagues agenda i respect them.

I definitely respect them, but I still dislike them. And I still would prefer some other team in the West (ie. Suns or Jazz) to give it a go in the Finals. But beggars can't be choosers. The Spurs are probably going to win it all anyway, much to my dismay.
