"I would like to thank my beloved friends at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for bestowing such an honor on me," 'Sweeney Todd''s JOHNNY DEPP said of his Golden Globe win for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture -- Comedy or Musical.

"It is a humbling experience, especially in the company of such talent. For many years the HFPA has supported my work and for that I have always been truly grateful. While this is indeed a happy day for me, I am overjoyed at the recognition the film as a whole is receiving. TIM [BURTON] is a dear friend and a true artist whose vision and skill inspire us all. He is a genius. Without his unwavering trust and support, I would not be anywhere near where I am today. Also, big thanks and respect to HELENA [BONHAM CARTER], whose simply staggering performance as Mrs. Lovett is a wonder to behold. I must send a behemoth salute to the wonderful crew and cast of 'Sweeney Todd' and all at Dreamworks/Paramount and Warner Bros. Pictures. JOHNNY DEPP struggled with one song on the SWEENEY TODD soundtrack - because he had to hold a note he feared he'd never be able to.

When the movie star signed up to play the demon barber of Fleet Street in Tim Burton's dark musical he insisted he'd stay true to Todd creator Stephen Sondheim's songs - even if they proved difficult to nail, like Johanna.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It's such an emotional song and as far as I was concerned, when Stephen Sondheim writes the note and it has to be held for this many beats, you do it.
"Don't be a pussy, you f**kin' hold that note. You can't cheat. You can't whisper... You just gotta belt it out.

"I really beat myself up, making sure I could hold those notes. In Johanna, some are, like, 12 beats. That was a bugger. At one point, I was close to passing out - I got dizzy and saw black."

My poor Baby!! 🙁 But he did amazingly and I'm glad he pulled through and never gave up! 🙂 Johanna is one of my favs songs from Sweeney!

Yay! Johnny got the Globe! Congrats to you, Johnny! And Atonement got the best drama award. So, what does this say about Sparrabeth, eh?

Once again..Johnny's contribution and visit to the hospital that saved Lily Rose's life is an amazing story...and his acceptance speech for the golden globe.....it's like the man is so beautiful on the outside...but even more beautiful on the inside...which makes him the most amazing man in the world......God - Vanessa must be the most blessed woman in the world!

I especially thought it was awesome that he had his Captain jack Sparrow suit flown in and that he dressed up and told stories to the patients in the hospital....Unbelievable!

Makes a buncha sense to me==if he was being Jack he could give of himself And he could be 'hidden' and 'safe'--I really do believe that he is as a lot of us are, those whom I refer to as "closet exhibitionists"--we want desperately to be seen and admired and yet we're too "shy" to stand up and demand attention. Maybe not as "shy" as me, but doesn't it seem to fit.

Oh, my, remember the recent vid where he said he wanted to be Meadowlark Lemon of the Harlem Globetrotters--just heard an ad for them appearing here locally. Wouldn't he be precious in the red white and blue stars and bars basketball outfit...lmao! anyway, MHO that's all.

That story about the kids at the hospital really made me mist up. Those kids must have felt so special at that moment. Having the real Captain Jack reading to them.

I feel so left out not being a Sparrabether 🙁

as far as the pairing..yes, it was nice...but I still feel the chemistry and passion he had as Jack with Elizabeth is much more exciting....

With Jack and Liz you feel it on both parts...her for him and him for her...Johnny and Keira have such great chemistry...intended or not...

With Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett...he barely notices her...he is so obsessed with killing....but she adores him......and Johnny and Helena are good but I don't really feel any sexual chemistry between them....i guess cuz I know that she is married to Tim Burton....the director...

I love that Blood Lust siggy.

We'll have to disagree on Sparrabeth because I don't think either character was that into it. Liz was just faking to save everyone and kill him and Jack I don't think wanted her more than he wanted any other woman that he needed to scratch his itch. I didn't think Johnny and Keira had that great of chemistry romantically just my opinion. I'd rank her on the lower end of the 20 or so Depp films I have seen in the chemistry department the absolute worst chemistry being him and Christina Ricci (but I guess for similar reasons since Depp said he did feel uncomfortable with both Ricci and Knightley a bit because of their age)

I think Johnny's greatest on screen chemistry that I have witnessed is with Juliette Binoche in Chocolat.

I agree Sweeney did not love Lovett or notice her much but the times he did notice her alive were so electric in a way that I'd be curious to see them as a duo again in a different role romantic or not.

after sparrabeth, i no longer find my love for other ships (besides dramione...but thats a totally different story lmao 😄) anymore....

They've gone and tainted me for life lol!!! 😄

Also...Its come to the point where i cant quite see another johnny/actress together because i know it will not be the same chemistry lol .... yes, you've guessed it...im obsessed 😄

HOWEVER:

I LOVE HBC, and apart from Keira knightley and Kate winslet, whom are by far my favourite actresses (not just for their incredible talent, but also for their down to earth personalities🙂) , i have to say that HBC has won me over completely 😄
