The Libertine is about this hugely self-centered, extremely talented man who had the attention of the king, if he had only played along he could have had everything, but instead he just twisted off in a lot of rude crude and socially unacceptable ways. The coach scene has him with his wife as they travel to London, and he makes her recount the story of their elopement. Basically, she had a ton of money, he kidnapped her, had his way with her on the way to Gretna Greene--the local Scottish? I think elopement center of that time period (think Las Vegas--little white chapel I guess). There's a cool vid by Lyttlewyng--song of Annie Lennox called Why? and it will get your attention--just Annie Lennox's voice and then the strange story of the 2nd Earl of ??. Massively not fun film, beautifully photographed, had Rupert Friend (?) who was Keira Knightly's boyfriend for a while. Mr. Depp's character is a lousy, womanizing, sorry SOB with no redeeming social value. Basicallly piffed away all his great potential and yes, evidently STDs of the time made your nose rot off. Yuk.

haha... yeah i've thought about it and i don't think i'll see that one--- as much as Johnny is tempting, it sounds like a very depressing, pointless film. I think I'll just go watch Chocolat again. 🙂
The Libertine was also bisexual. There is a scene where he is quite cozy with a male character. They're not kissing or anything but the way he is sitting with him it is obviously more than friendly and he admits to not caring who he is screwing man or woman in his monologue in the beginning.
Oh gosh.. don't get me started on Chocolat. Seriously, for me that character is like THE perfect man. Irish (😛) . Sexy . Humorous . Love Kids . PIRATE . 😍 -oh and he an dance.. *sighs*
The love scenes in Don Juan DeMarco really aren't that bad.. Libertine is far worse.. especially that scene in the carriage.. *shudders*

To me it's intriguing to watch Johnny's performance. I will watch any film he is in just to watch what he does. I love the little things he inserts to make his performances more real. The Libertine was also bisexual. There is a scene where he is quite cozy with a male character. The funny thing about the man Johnny (it's also his name in the movie) is cuddling with in the movie, is that he is Rupert Friend, Keira's boyfriend in real life...lol!!
