Jack Sparrow/Johnny Depp Lovefest

...I need to make a music video of those skeletons to the coldplay song "Cemeteries of London".

*grin*

That's a fun idea. Later on in the year, you should do something for Halloween and show all the scary parts of the movies.

The POTC marathon here was amazing! I have never watched the series with grown men before so I was very interested to see what they thought and I'm sure it was the first time for some of them. COTBP wasn't too crowded, like 5 people, but it was almost full for DMC, so that was a surprise. I think guys are sparrabethers because during Curiosity the group in front of me were like, "Kiss her!" I was laughing. AWE was full, too, and yes, I am a huge dork for watching all 3 back to back, but I figured now was my only chance. Opportune moment, right?

That's so awsome Willo I'm glad you had a wonderful time. Did you notice any new detalis by watching all 3 movies in a row? What I mean is did you catch something that you didn't notice before?

Ahhh man so jealous of you willo!!

that sounds really awesome willo! haha, I knew it. Sparrabeth is still the sweetest ever.

Well, for COTBP it was mostly what the camera is focusing on at the time. But, there was a bit of dialogue, too. When Jack and Will comandeer the ship, one of the men asks Norrington if he wants them to fire on their own ship and James says "I'd rather see her at the bottom of the ocean than in the hands of a pirate" and I almost went "OHHH!" out loud because it occurred to me he was talking about the ship itself. I always thought he was talking about Elizabeth. So I never got that scene until now. I also could appreciate Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally's performances a little more because I could see their expressions a little better. It's a wonder how the movie didn't come away with more acting nominations.

For DMC, I didn't really notice any details...probably because I've seen that one so many times, but it was really fun to watch and hear other people's reactions. There was a guy and girl who sat behind me and I don't think they had seen it before because they were gasping and all kinds of stuff. It was wonderful.

(sparrabeth kiss on-screen)
Couple: Gasp!
(Will sees the kiss)
Couple: Gasp!
(We find out it is a kiss of death)
Couple: Gasp!

And then right at the end when Tia Dalma says they will need a captain to take them to World's End, the girl whispers, "I bet they bring back Barbossa." I was cracking up!

It was close to a full house for AWE and I hadn't seen that one as much as the other two, so I could appreciate the things I liked about it, like the opening. Beckett's entrance is so good, so chilling. There are a lot of camera angles and shots that mirror shots in COTBP. Maybe I will play around with screen shots and find them. But I could hear the music better and really savor it. I missed the "He's a Pirate" theme, but Hoist the Colors is very good.

Lovethemtigers would be very proud of me because this was the first time I watched the movie and actually picked up on the alternate interpretation that she offered. I didn't stick around for the scene after the credits, but now there is no doubt in my mind that sparrabeth can be.

1. That marriage is soooo not valid.
2. Jack proved he was a good man by sacrificing his own immortality to save Will and in DMC Elizabeth (and one of the writers in the commentary) say that she's set him up in a no-win situation because she is basically telling him in Curiosity that the only way he can win her is not to put her in that position. So by saving Will, he's done exactly that.
3. There is nothing to say that Elizabeth's faithfulness will free Will, nor does it say that if she is unfaithful he will turn out like Jones. Davy Jones chose to become a monster and lock his heart away. I have the feeling Will would be mature enough to understand. I always believed he could find a girl floating in the driftwood and he'd fall for her...
4. REALLY didn't like that Jack called Giselle "love" in the last scene, but something really caught my eye and it's right after he slaps Gibbs. They share a very knowing look before the "take what you can, give nothing back" exchange, and for some reason, it doesn't seem to fit the obvious, that Jack would be going after the Pearl. I don't know. Maybe I'm just weird or overly hopeful, but it really seems like Gibbs knows EXACTLY what Jack's about to go and do, which brings me to 5.
5. Jack pimps out his little dinghy and starts singing "A Pirate's Life for Me." That's supposed to be a callback to the other times it was sung and it has only ever been sung by two characters (except for the bonus scene). He has a very knowing smile on his face. Now we all know he can't get from wherever Tortuga is to Florida on a dinghy and we all know he wouldn't just let Barbossa keep the Pearl, so my thoughts are that he's on his way to see someone who DOES have her own ship who can help him get it back, savvy? Hee hee.

Sorry, not trying to double-post, but I can't access the screenshots from work. I'll try to describe them and maybe someone can post them.

In COTBP right before Jack dives in to rescue Elizabeth, the camera cuts to him handing off each of his effects, like cuts to him handing off his pistol, then a cut of him handing off his coat, etc. It's almost an anti-arming up montage. It's all done very quickly, but it's a nice touch for some reason.

Liz SOO can't take her eyes off him during his arrest. Watch her in the long shots.

Stupid me was wondering where peas in a pod was during the movie before I remembered it was a deleted scene! But now I know why it was cut. As one of the soldiers drags Elizabeth into the cabin of the Dauntless, she does this crazy woman rant about how the pirates can't be killed, like she's trying to warn James at the last second. The whole peas in a pod scene is about how she DIDN'T tell James that little tidbit because she knew he wouldn't risk it if he knew what he was up against, so to include both would make her seem crazy.

In DMC, not an important detail, but right before Jack's entrance, you should look at just the sheer number of coffins being hurled into the sea. I was kind of wondering why bother putting the bodies in coffins if you were just going to put them out to sea anyway...

Check out Will's expressions when they go see Tia Dalma...I don't think he minds at all that some beautiful voodoo witch is coming onto him. He's almost flirting with her when he asks her what vexes all men! It's not until she starts telling the story of Davy Jones and comes to the part about the kind of woman Davy fell in love with. Will starts to get a little impatient and asks kind of sharply what it was he put in the chest. Almost like "will you shut up already and get to the point." But then he's nice again and smiles at her when he says they need to know where the Flying Dutchman is.

Once Elizabeth has used the compass to get a heading, there is a long shot of everyone and Jack sort of does this half-circle around her, like he's brainstorming and I don't know how Johnny Depp does it, but it really is a kid-in-a-candy-store look, like "Now that I have you, what am I going to do with you," in a naughty way. Hee hee. It was adorable.

In DMC, right after Isla Cruces and right before the Dutchman pulls up next to the Pearl, Will wakes up from his oar attack and Elizabeth is bent over him and it mirrors exactly how they met in COTBP, same poses, even similar expressions. It's very well done.

I was on the edge of my seat during the kraken attack. Every little thing is perfect. So suspenseful. It was like I was watching it for the first time.

I'm sure you guys know that right after the "he's right we have to head for land" line, there is a long shot of everyone. Will's speaking that they have time to get away while the kraken takes down the Pearl. This whole time, Jack is looking right at Elizabeth.

The music during the boat ride back to Tia Dalma when everyone is standing out in the water holding candles was more moving than ever because they are actually humming a song. I had never heard that before. Also, I was always under the impression this was a village of sorts that the slaves Jack had freed had made, but in one of the long shots, there is a white man, so it's even more beautiful that maybe EVERYONE nearby that heard the word Jack was dead and got together to mourn him.

Lastly, AWE. This one breaks away from the other two because it is the only one that has a scene before the title appears and features the hanging of a kid. I can't see the braces everyone's talking about.

When Gibbs, Marty, Cotton, Pintel, and Ragetti are in the water below the bath house, it kind of looks like they're wearing old WW2 helmets, but I think they're sea turtle shells!!!!

I could make a drinking game of every time Liz just gets up and walks away from a conversation when Will gets mad. It's so freaking annoying. In COTBP, she gets up and walks away after he learns his dad actually was a pirate and they need his blood. Somehow she took his anger to mean he was mad at her and stormed out. She does it again with the "how long are we going to continue not talking" and tries to do it yet again during the very awkward "how can I trust you" scene.

In the Locker, there is a slow Jack, the one who is just kind of running around in a long white shirt. You know him because he says "Aye, Captain" after everybody else does, but if you keep your eye on him beforehand, he's just staring at the others nodding like he's a bobblehead. If I were Jack, I would have shot that one.

Anyone have an answer as to why some of the dead just float in the water while others are traveling in boats?

I never noticed Sao Feng washes his hands in some kind of leafy steamy bowl and then takes a leaf out to eat it while he's talking to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth, it looks like she has tears in her eyes when she's talking to Bootstrap Bill, like she really empathizes with him and of course the news that Will basically has to choose between her and him is a bit heartbreaking for her.

Parlay...just...parlay. I love that scene.

Once again, I was on the edge of my sea for the final battle, like I was seeing it for the first time. It's very intense. It was very hard to watch everything that happens after it because I'm not a big fan of Elizabeth's goodbye scene to everyone. It's like they're sending her off to her death and if I was tearing up at Barbossa telling her goodbye...imagine how I was when she got down to Jack. He's looking at the floor and swallowing as she comes down to him before summoning up a cool stance and...wow.

By the time it got to hers and Will's goodbye, which I also think is very sad and bittersweet, I started looking at all the guys I was watching it with, wondering if they were thinking about their wives and their girlfriends back home. I know I think about my husband when I watch that scene...

Anyways, all that was what stuck out for me.

Yeah I always wondered why some were floating in the water and some on boats. Like the ones in the water were unresponsive, but Gov. Swann was just...normal.

So...POTC keeps entering my work environment. We had that marathon and one of the captains came in and said he was making an entertainment wish list. He asked what comedians and musical groups I would like to come out here and perform and then he asked who my favorite actor was, so I said Johnny Depp and that if he could get Johnny Depp out here to me my head would explode. This is the brain-wracking conversation that followed...

Captain Semrau: So...if we were to have an in-house movie night, you'd probably want to watch POTC huh?

Me: Well, all 3 movies were just at the theater so you probably wouldn't have a good turnout.

CS: So what else has he been in?

(I stare at him blankly and think WTF)

Me: (composing myself) Sleepy Hollow? Once Upon a Time in Mexico? Sweeney Todd...

CS: Ichabod Crane.

Me: Yes. Um...Donnie Brasco, the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie...

CS: But he is in POTC, right?

Me: (about to lose my cool) Yeah.

CS: As a pirate?

Me: No sh*t.

CS: The main pirate, right?

(I face-palm)

Me: YES!

CS: Okay, okay, well, can't promise you Johnny in the 3 or 4 weeks you have left here, but I will send it up. (leaves)

Oh my gosh!! Are you even serious??? Haha! That is so sad!

I seriusly doubt they would be able to get him out here, but who knows? Does he do a lot of military-related charities?

I dont think so....

What's your avi? That looks awesome!

My new love 🙂 his name is Darren Criss. He stars in A Very Potter Musical on YouTube. The best musical ever created by man, I'm pretty sure.
