I think she knew Jack was going to stay because she had realized by this point he had come back for her..So before he goes she makes it so he knows that she is his?

I just interpret that to mean that the things that seem to bind us, our relationships for example, really make us free. Jack isn't free when we first meet him. He's chained to the idea of his own freedom. He can't do whatever he wants because he feels he can't make any choice that would limit his freedom. It's a paradox, but if you stop thinking about it, it just clicks.

willofthewisp, i totally agree with you!

Or it could be that she realizes he is willing to change for her but she is soooo not ready for that?? YET Like we used to say 😂

someone else has said this:

And, IMO, by forcing him to face the consequences of his past decisions, she is enabling him to be free of the encumbrance of fear that's driven him to this point. This is why he is able to actually embrace the concept of encountering the Kraken. The look on his face was one of someone welcoming a challenge. Someone who has finally realized what he needs to do.

Liz? Don't think she's free yet. She still has to face the consequences of her decision. Maybe that is why Jack says "We're not free yet, love"...because he already knew she was coming to his side and she had yet to face the consequences of that. By saying "pirate" he may have been trying to help her get to that point

and we have to remember..that Jack gets what Jack wants!

this is his change!! this is what will stop him from perishing with the new world

change is deffinately the word for these two films.

Everyone needs to change to adjust...but i dont think jack is going to go down without a fight.

Elizabeth changes; she becomes more piratey

Will changes; He holds connotations of going a little darker (throwing the knife at the table..)

Jack IS changing; But remember...the writers can't change him too much, because this is captain jack sparrow...the audience loves him enough as he is...taking something away from him may be too dangerous...

"What a ship is...what the black pearl really is...is freedom"

To some extent i get the feeling that the black pearl kind of materialises what jack sees within himself.

"She's just a ship" ... and that right there is his turning point...

Those spoken words epitimise Jack Sparrow's change;

"What a ship is...what the black pearl really is...is freedom"
...
"What I Am...what I really want to be...is free from societies rules and regulations. I want to live by my rules...and nothing will take that away from me"...

"She's just a ship"...

.....

"I'm just a man... and a man can only have so much freedom before it becomes his own worst enemy..."

PS ... those in bold were not words he has used (just so no1 gets confused again about another one of my confusing posts lol🙂) ...just what i think the words within the films symbolise....

OMG very good points!!^^

when you think about it..because he has accepted to be chained down he then shows just how free he really can be now that he wants to be with her

He jumps into the kraken with such an amazing confidence..he feels as if he can face anything now...nothing is going to hold him back because he has Elizabeth.

so the answee is..Jack can have a relationship and it makes him a stronger man in the end..so that will probably be the ending, he will be with someone..obviously Liz.. 😂

that was a GREAT post T. Maria. awesome. its SO true.

wow im going to have to digest that for a while. every time i picture Jack saying "she's only a ship, mate" i flip out cause its so hott.

but its really the turning point for him... a huge turning point for his character and all the relationships.

Love makes you strong, brave, free to do what it is you need to do.

and Liz's line "hes right, we have to head for land" signifies something too i think... for her land has always represented being tied down, but here's she's pushing them all towards that, looking directly at jack, basically saying, okay its time to take this forward...

I think elizabeth finds HER freedom within Jack just as much as he finds his within her...

Notice;

He talks about the Black Pearl to her...Tells her that its about freedom...he's telling this to ELIZABETH, which indicates that Jack finds a different kind of freedom within her.

I also think that maybe elizabeth realises this;

"I always knew you were a good man..."

IMO this creates a bond between them...she knew that as soon as he said the words;

"Its just a ship"

That he had realised that he did not have his own freedom anymore...he was sacrificing his freedom for the good of the crew...for her.

She told him he was a good man because he realised that her freedom was more important than his own...he sacrificed himself and came back for her...but she was ultimately his freedom at the end of DMC... she made him realise that to be a man that he would have more freedom from opening himself up to her...making her understand what it meant to be free (island within POTC1) when no one else understood...

And for that; she realised what a good man he really was

Yes. He was a coward before..he was running away from things because there was no one there to fight for...

and that is a significant line..

also is the "abandon ship or abandon hope" line of any significance? 😕

yeeah, abandon Will or abandon your freedom ...could be

yeah i think the "abandon ship or abandon hope" line is going to come out in 3, if your theories on pirates having to change to survive... ya know? like they will have to abandon their pirate ways in some parts in order to survive.

I'm thinkin that Liz isnt ready yet..she seems to be forcing herself to go back to land with that line.. and she knows that she is going to abandon him on the ship only seconds later "abandon ship or abandon hope" maybe she feels as if right now Jack is a scary thing to embrace "we're not free yet love" I think she still needs her moment where she accepts she wants him in her life...maybe when she was all crying later on?

It is as if he has scared her a bit by showing he can love her..she's not all that ready for it..I dunno..she's one hard character to suss out

oh bother. lizzie lizzie lizzie. we all KNOW for SURE what you should do, so take our advice and do it.

i really, really think they might put a sex scene in 3. obviously not a real one, but a fade out during an intense kiss, wake up next to each other one.

they have been going on and on with all their sexual references, and all that. its high time they concluded them, ya know?

LOL..Yeh I think they will put a sex scene in there! they better!

thinking about it..Jack has had 2 films to realize he wants to love Elizabeth and let go of his old way of life..I'm sure jack was tempted in movie 1 by the idea

Elizabeth is only just beginning to realize that her old life is not really the one she wants....Liz needs 2 films to realize too 😂 She's had her temptation..and now she needs to embrace it in movie 3.

Thats the mark of a good actress...discression lol

And thats why we love the pairing...they are both cryptic characters, and the moment you think they will do one thing, they do something totally different🙂

Jack is an onion (yes...im shreking it here lol) ..hes got alot of layers and they need to be peeled away...and the closest person to get in that far has been elizabeth.

Gibbs told will that Jack plays it close to the chest now "and a hard learned lesson it was" (foreshadowing perhaps?) ...but a few scenes later hes telling Elizabeth about freedom...and i think that freedom is Jacks ultimate weakness....

He is afraid to be TRULY free...free to love...so he HIDES behind these material posessions (oooo Lovelyone your theory is making sense to me now lol!) of what makes a pirate....to be a pirate you have to be free from consequence, society...free from everything...

And jack will never be truly free from any of these things...because he is a good man...and good men are tied down in some way...

But when Jack is telling Elizabeth about being free...about how she WANTS to be free...i have a feeling that he may be talking about himself, also.....

---sorry guys, my computer made me post before i had finished! 😠

He loves things that cant love him back!

I've been saying that for months and months and people wouldn't believe me 😂..I told people that without Love jack would crumble as a man. He needs it to survive in the furure or he will perish..I was saying that since before I even realized about the Jack needeng to change or he will persih as a person thing...then I saw thatthe dog basically told me that he wants love..and now that he has it he is going to be brave for thos he loves (bone in his mouth on a throne)

I love your theories they are ALL making sense!!

Also I it seems that as soon as Jack accepted to change he had his death awakening moment

which makes me think..that as soon as Liz accepts Jack..Will is going to kill her and it will be her awakening moment

and as soon as Will realizes that he has chosen his father instead of Liz.as in Liz means so little to him now that he killed her)..he will have his awakening moment..I think Jack might stab him..or he will kill himself..

OFFER OF IMMORTALITY turned down by Jack..to save Elizabeth..so Calypso helps Jack/Odysseus return home to his penelope

EVERYONE can be brought back when Tia dahma's around 😂 So I think they are going to make Will forget..but Liz and Jack will stay together.

Or Will will redeem himself by leaving them both..and then forgetting about the tradgedy so he can be with his father or something.

Ok folks, this is the scene i was refering to when i stated that Maybe jack is refecting himself within the words he is speaking to Elizabeth...and she may also be mirroring her own words also....

They're talking about freedom AGAIN...and what they think the other would consider as being free, when ultimately they think that way about freedom themselves...

Jack Sparrow: My tremendous intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that you are troubled.

Elizabeth Swann: I just thought I'd be married by now. I'm so ready to be married.

[Jack offers Elizabeth a drink from his bottle]

Jack Sparrow: You know... [clears throat] Lizzy... I *am*... captain of a ship. And *being* captain of a ship, I could in fact perform a... marriage. Right here. Right on this deck. Right... *now*!

[Elizabeth recoils at Jack's breath on the word "now"

Elizabeth Swann: No, thank you.

Jack Sparrow: Why not? We *are* very much alike, you and I. I and you. Us.

Elizabeth Swann: Oh. Except for a sense of honor, and decency and-and a moral center. And personal hygiene.

[Jack smells his armpits]

Jack Sparrow: Trifles. You *will* come over to my side, I know it.

Elizabeth Swann: You seem very certain.

Jack Sparrow: One word love: curiosity. You long for freedom. You long to do what you want to do because you want it. To act on selfish impulse. You want to see what it's like. One day, you won't be able to resist.

Elizabeth Swann: Why doesn't your Compass work?

Jack Sparrow: Uh my Compass works fine.

Elizabeth Swann: Because you and I *are* alike, and there will come a moment when you have a chance to show it. To do the right thing.

Jack Sparrow: I *love* those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.

Elizabeth Swann: You'll have the chance to do something... something courageous. And when you do, you'll discover something: that you're a good man.

Jack Sparrow: All evidence to the contrary.

Elizabeth Swann: I have faith in you. Want to know why?

Jack Sparrow: Do tell, dearie.

Elizabeth Swann: Curiosity. You're going to want it. A chance to be admired. And gain the rewards that follow. You won't be able to resist. You're going to want to know... what it tastes like.

Jack Sparrow: I *do* want to know what it tastes like.

Elizabeth Swann:but - seeing as you're a good man I know you will *never* put me in a position that would compromise my honor.

[Jack stares in horror as the black spot boils back into view on his hand, Elizabeth doesn't notice]

Elizabeth Swann: I'm proud of you, Jack.

Gibbs: Land ho!

Jack Sparrow: I want my jar of dirt.

^^^^ also, this line at the end is significant....hes realised the freedom that he wants..and suddenly he is faced with it...and he once again wants to hide behind the thing that makes him a pirate...which is what he considers to be 'freedom'....his material objects

PS sorry lovelyone...but that was such a brilliant theory that you came up with, and it is deffinately very true!!

ok, ill shut up now lol 😱
