Power Inconsistency Thread

I'm sick of characters being able to do something one issue, then not being able to do something that's practically the same in another issue

Or even worse, a character not being able to do something for a long time, then all of a sudden having no problem with it whatsoever.... with no explanation given as to why it's now possible.

So this thread is here to point out the Inconsistencies/Continuity f**k ups of various characters (provide scans if you've got them)

To start us off... Wolverine (you knew it was coming)

Healing powers, recently Wolverine has been shown as being practically invincible:

But this was not always the case. First, (Wolverine #165) Mauvis removed and ate his eye:

He was still wearing the eyepatch in issue #169 as it hadn't fully healed until then

Then there was the Wendigo incident (issues 129/130)

Wolverine passes out after barely surviving the fight and is still b!tching about his wounds 5 days later.

Obviously this thread was inspired by Wolverine .... and I'm not even one of these supposed "haters" .... or why would I have all these issues to use as examples? ... but feel free to post proof of any character whose continuity has been shat on for the sake of a "cool" new feat.

Owned !! Next time fanboys mention his healing factor I will show them that.

Co-signed. There is an example of Iron Man in the New Avengers: Illuminati issue where Namor rips of Tony's helmet underwater. Thats supposed to be impossible since from WCA (i think) Tony has used magnets to keep his helmet on to prevent such things from happening

Wonder Woman, Thor, Martian Man-hunter, Silver Surfer and the Hulk are the greatest culprits of this type of inconsistency, IMO. Odin and Glacatus are pretty bad as well. It seems to be a problem that is greatly associated with powerhouses, although Wolverine, Captain America and Flash are also guilty. I think its mainly down to a lack of research , although insane writing as seen above plays its part. The guy who wrote that comic really wasn't thinking. He is literally making Wolverine invincible. I think having characters perform impressive feats with their powers is a generally a positive thing (And its something D.C. tend to do slightly better, although i think Spider man and the FF4 are some of the best comics for power ingenuity), but it can be totally ludicrous. Having Superman blow out a Sun, or Wolverine healing from a molecule, is just absurd.

Exactly. I'm just waiting for the Wolverine issue thats supposed to reveal exactly how he was able to do that (till then I reserve mt rant). Flash is a big one you mentioned. Capable of lightspeed travel and reflexes at hundred times the speed of thought gets tripped by a stick? Or Superman blowing out a sun as you mentioned. DC does do the whole super impressive feat better but as a result they can go overboard sometimes (only cause they do it more often and are subject to more flaws). And Cap is another one. Sometimes he's taking on entire battlions of trained SHIELD agents, other days one rogue agent is taking him down. Spider-Man can dodge Doc Oc's tentacles which move at like 90 ft per second but he can't dodge a punch from a martial artist?

Yea, Spiderman and Flash are more victims of UNDERwriting than anything else, which piles to the frustration. The thing that irks me is that a Wolverine supporter isn't a fanboy when they argue that Wolverine can take hits from Hulk so DD shouldn't be a problem; although proven otherwise. But when Spiderman supporters argue that guys like DD shouldn't be hitting him because he has dodged faster MUCH more consistently, then it's a fanboy or a problem.

I've heard people argue that Wolverine cannot be knockout out (for some reason) but I could probably show at least 4 or 5 times where it has happened

I remember that.
They were saying sine his healing factor works so fast any brain injury he had would heal itself so quickly he would never pass out from the damage 🙄

CIS..?

I'm still thinking Marvel's going to explain Wolverine's super healing factor, by that he has been using the same amplifying drug as Nitro.. (He's a "bad" boy after all 😆 )

And I have a theory that Pete's such a nice guy, he fights to the level of his competition sub-consciously. Yeah, fanboy rhetoric most likely. But for all the inconsistencies with who he can and can't beat, what he can and can't dodge, etc. and it becomes obvious that it's either just insanely erratic (and dumb) writing, or something random like my idea.

The Rhino is a major person with power inconsistancy. He can run through brick walls and tangle with the hulk, but get's knocked out by a car?

I have to disagree. He gets owned by Hulk as soon as Hulk's anywhere near angry. Even a suped-up version of Rhino crashed Banner's wedding and ended up in a coma (if memory serves).

Rhino's just a straight-up jobber. No power inconsistencies there.

😉

Actually, if he got knocked out by a car ..... that's just wrong

Gladiator punches a planet apart but barely beats Colossus

I tell u what is inconsistent, is Supermans weakness to magic. Shouldn't Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel be able to punch holes in him ?, Especially seeing as considerbaly less powerful magical hits have hurt him in the past. Infact durability on the whole is generally inconsistent through out D.C.

I still have that thread where me and never owned the Wolverine fanboys, it was a "who can knock Wolverine out tied to a wall" someone actually said tyrant. Thing is Wolverine takes damage like a human, but heals from it faster, his skeleton has no factor whatsoever with stuff like Brain Damage and concussive force.

I think Peter sells himself short quite often unless he's mad, which was when Logan's class seven fighting didn't help him from getting tossed out of a window. I'm like that a bit in serious competition until I get serious or just bored with playing around. Thing is Spiderman doesn't fight like he does in the forum, he doesn't use his great strength, so when we come to this forum and put him in a match, people begin to neglect the forum modifiers and bring up matches where Spiderman has had a low showing, ANOTHER frustration. But it's why stats are important, because an opponent will pretty much always bring low showings in for the person they want to lose, and use high showings for his character, it becomes a circular argument.

Exactly. Unless all of a sudden his brain is also adamantium

Couldn't have said it better myself

I'm jinzin now? 😛
