Parallel Universes

Ok, so this is one thing that I'm somewhat of a firm believer in, more so than time travel, aliens, and what not.

I really do feel that there are different parallel universes in existence out there. A collection of different dimensions within our own world in and of itself, each with it's own unique reality.

In other words just to put it rather simplistically, I believe that there is another version of our world and our lives as we've come to know it. Even another version of myself slightly altered. Perhaps, me living somewhere else or with a different job, different social status, etc...

And I base all this on absolutely nothing...no j/k...actually I do have some factual links and evidence which I'll present if requested but for now I'd be content with just getting some general feedback on this...

Any thoughts? Do you believe they exist? Why or why not?..etc.

The "many-worlds" hypothesis (I don't think it goes by that name anymore) was an alternative explanation for quantum phenomena, as a way of avoiding the consciousness-collapsing-wavefunction problem.

Parallel universes also pop up in some quantum-cosmology discussions.

Certainly, when discussing time-travel, it's a nifty way of avoiding the grandfather paradox.

I can't visit these alternative dimensions, people/things from them can't visit ours therefor it matters not to me if they exist or not, the whole idea of top scientists concentrating research on stuff like this; as I know they have been doing, sounds like a lot of shit to me, could they not be doing anything better with their time? There are a lot of questions that have not yet been answered that actually concern the human race.

I thought the parallel universes theory discounted any idea of time travel.... and then open up the discussion for dimension travel.

Maybe one day we will be able to visit these other worlds or see into them... or at least prove their existence. It would give us a perspective on our existence that could change the way we live.

There are only 2 dimensions in existence...they are good and evil. What you decide to believe either from a thing or someone could be from misleading results. Just think of it...there's nothing more out there...aliens helping or destroying.

Kind of a combination: you go back in time, but the paradox barrier prevents you from going back into the history leading up to your present from which you left, a "parallel past" as it were.

time is just an idea, not an actual thing, so you can't travel in it

Nah, I can pretty much guarantee that will not happen.

i like the idea of parallel universes. would certainly give an explanation for deja vu

.... and visible ghosts... and earth's weak gravity...

Deja Vu already has an explanation.... It's most probably neurological.

"neurological" is the blanket explanation to everything paranormal.

The are two explanations for this. The is either one Universe or there are more then one

1. If you go back in time and see yourself then kill yourself you are gone from erased from existence because there is only 1 universe and 1 of you that person in which you killed is you so you KILLED yourself therefore you hanged history and you are not in it any longer.

2. If you go back in time you see yourself and kill yourself. Nothing happens and that is meant to happened because that is what was going to happen in that universe in the first place because you traveled back into a parallel universe that was a different you.

or it could be that there are infinite universes, each containing a seperate course of events. there was a really cool ep. of star treak tng that played on that theory

that's kinda what I said in there...

"more than one" could simply mean two... i was specifying "infinity"

other dimensions is possible. some people(everyone if truth be told) can tune in to other wavelenghts and experience that dimension. thats why when we see ghosts and other apparations etc, they are just operating on a different wavelenght. they are not dead people's souls.

I'm reading Stephen King's The Dark Tower series at the moment...I'm on Book III, and liking it.

Ooo, how topical.

As for parallel universes being a possibility, I'm open to it. Sounds kinda cool.
