There are only 2 dimensions in existence...they are good and evil
if there were alternate universes, it couldn't be good and evil.
Why?
Because good and evil don't exist. They are concepts humans came up with and saying that there is an alternate universe where everyone is evil would be like saying there is an alternate universe where the movie "titanic" is actually what we would know as "x-men". these are human created concepts, thus, a universe could not be centered around that.
You could say that there is a universe which is the exact opposite of ours, which would then have evil or just plain badass-ness is what would be good for them.
The whole idea sounds plausible to me. I've read a few books like "The Universe and Multiple Reality" amongst others. It would explain some paranormal experiences for sure. Oh, the "Holographic Universe" was good too. The Movie "What the Bleep do we know anyway" was a little strange though. But yes I do believe in different dimensions each having it's own frequencies which is why we can't really see them, only glimpses.
meh....I like the thought behind posts like this but a lot of people should do some reading before posting replies in them. I keep seeing misuse of very important terms, especially to a discussion like this.
A dimension is a measure of direction.....a cooridinate of space allowing one to determine an object's position. There are three physical dimensions that we know of. X (up/down), Y (left/right) and Z (forward/backward). There may be other dimensions but we are incapable of percieving them with our human anatomy. Even if so, they would change our world none, only knowing of their existence would allow us to further explain the phenomena that we witness in the three physical dimensions that we can percieve. It has nothing to do with "other worlds".......
A universe is well, I'm sure you already know what a universe is.........an area of space held together by the gravity of it's combined matter.
There may well be an infinite amount of universes.....but none would be like this one. Each would have had it's own beginning....expansion....resulting in the formation of it's own particles....matter....stars....heavenly bodies producing collisions resulting in fragments of their matter being trapped in a star's gravitational pull.......forming planets.......which would have evolved due to the physical environment of that planet.
Universes do not overlap. Universes contain matter. There is not another universe on top of this one or any other. If two were to meet, it would be a great collision.....matter hitting matter....destroying both or the part of both which collided. Think of taking two rocks and hitting them together. You can not make their matter overlap......only collide. This is ofcourse the basis for M theory......in which the big bang which created our universe was created by the collision of two other universes....
to use words like "dimension" (which is completely inaccurate and irrelevant to this thread) or "universe" are erronious. It appears to me what you speak of is some "higher plane of existence" or something like the new age folks talk about........something not physical that overlaps with our universe.....something spiritual.
ps. The grandfather paradox is easily dismissed as time does not exist. It is simply a term created by humans allowing events to be placed in chronoligical order. It is nothing physical, therefore can not be travelled through. It is an idea. You can travel to a place....physical matter...you can not travel to a thought.

Ok, one of the most basic reasons why I believe in Parallel Universes is because our lives and the world as we know it is based quite simply on choices that we make. In other words, choices that we make in life define who we are and what environment or world we live in.
Therefore, I think it's absolutely plausible to believe in there being different dimensions or rips within our own universe where there might be a complete alternate reality or a completely different and absolutely unique universe in and of itself. The 11 dimensions of existence have been explained and actually studied quite a bit. It's really a lot more fact these days than fiction. Although, I do agree that time should really have no bearing whatsoever in this discussion. These are 2 concepts independent of themselves.
Here's a link that explains a bit more .....http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/horizon/2001/paralleluni.shtml
I know it's a bit old but there are many others like that.
Btw, if anything I hope this thread turns into a debate between Mindship and Evil Dead. Good posts guys. I appreciate the thought and effort into your responses.
Oh one last thing, does anyone remember the show 'Sliders' ?
I read a lot of speculation. Hell, everything here is speculation, without the slightest piece of evidence.
A lot of could, would, should, may, possible.
Where's the evidence people ?
To avoid misunderstandings : I am NOT one of those people who only accept things when the proof is on the table, but I need at least something before I start believing in parallel universes. That something, I haven't found it here.
Maybe it's in another universe 😉
Yes. Interesting, fascinating and cool at the same time.
But in my own amateur way, I follow the scientific world quite some time, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that spectacular theories only exist until they are replaced by even more spectacular theories.
Somebody asks for proof ? Forget it, you won't get it. Then again, I realize very well that it's almost impossible to prove that there is such a thing as a parallel universe.
But scientists should take into account that people nowadays don't believe everything they read - especially when other scientists completely disagree with exactly the same theories ! They want my belief ? Fine, how about backing it up a little bit ?
If they can't do that, they should have at least the decency to admit it's only a theory that can't be proved (yet), but instead they tell these things as if it's written in stone.
Sometimes I think scientists speculate - or fantasize, what's the difference - about the most intriguing concepts, just to draw the attention of the general public.
