Maybe so but that doesn't condone the gratuitious torture of another living thing. A cat's life might not be worth as much as a parsons but it still feels pain, both physical and emotional.

Another way to look at it is many serial killers start off killing and torturing animals. This is a seriously dangerous person and he belongs in prison.
