But maybe he just felt like torturing a cat..once...I can see that we protect animals and such, but 8 years..that is ridiculous.

Yep, that's how many serial killers start: they torture animals and then work their way up.

When he was as young as 10, Jeff Dahmer would pluck birds naked before killing them, and impale mice on nails.

Although, I'm not sure that logically justifies the jail sentence.

It's like putting people in jail for a year for having yellow as their favourite colour, because such people frequently go on to become serial killers.

What he did was blatantly against the law, and horrible, he's a bad person. His sentance is harsh, but acceptable because his crime was particularly harsh as well. Also keep in mind that this was another persons cat, someones pet. Destruction of property and such.

Also, this is America, 8 years will probably turn into 3 with good behavior.
