DRM= Digital Rights(or restrictions) Management
It's what the music and movie industries do to lock the Movies/music into one format. You want to listen to a CD fine. You want that same song on your mp3 player, nope, gotta pay for it again from itunes or something. Granted there are ways around it right now, but thanks to the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) they're supposedly illegal.
So basically the problem with itunes is that it will only play on an ipod. Lets say that you break/lose your ipod, but find a good deal on a non-apple mp3 player. Thanks to itunes DRM you can't play your old songs on your new player unless you break the law (DMCA).
There's a pretty big anti-DRM movement out there. check out www.eff.org or www.digitalconsumer.org

What about those DRM converter?
burn it to cd...then copy it to your computer in a "free and clear" format that can be transferred anywhere.
I believe there are converters out there...but I have never tried any of them.
a company has the right to decide what media play on its devices
if apple didn't have such a monopoly on the mp3 and digital download market, there is no way in hell they would do this.
Also, sony and other companies have been proposing similar things for over a decade now.
you want an mp3 player that doesn't try to prevent piracy? make your own!

Please discuss DRM, but specifying things that would violate the (idiotic peace of legislation) DMCA. No reason to get the thread shut down after all.
What exactly am i supposed to discuss? Couldn't you have explained in a little more detail, what exactly DRM are?

wow, so, I wonder what cognitive mechanism drew you from the statement about mac's monopolization of mp3 and direct download to a shot at Microsoft.... (EDIT: when the real competition to Mac in this regard comes from sony and other media player manufacturers, or other direct download programs, which nothing compared to itunes exists...)
shema priming? Associative learning? Simple classical conditioning?

I'm just saying that iPods are not the best in any way and have a shitload of problems. There are good things Apple does, iTunes in general being a pretty good program, Macs being very good as well, but iPods aren't and their attitude of shitting on their customers is their customers own fault for buying something based on smooth looks instead of excellent performance.

Discuss your feelings on DRM (Digital Rights Management or alternatively Digital Restrictions Management) and the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act). Google either and you'll see that there's a pretty lively debate going on about the extent of copyright and consumer rights at the moment.
