Well yes xmarks is good at debating but isn't perfect. The only problem is he is incapable of admiting when he is wrong, when thet does happen he resorts to insults.

English is my second language too. I've learned to write and speak it pretty well, though...Finland has a good education system.

At the end of the day usually it's the student that dictates the education they get. You obviously worked hard regardless of the quality of teaching etc.

hmmmmmmmm

❌ although i'm sure you're very nice.

Everyone wants to be windy 😠

blah

How stupid it may sound, the main reason I joined KMC forums, was to improve my English.

The 10 most important words I've mastered until now, are :

- prep time
- overrated
- non canon
- continuity
- utility belt
- spider sense
- pimp hand
- force field
- fan boy
- psionic

Everybody can see, English holds no more secrets for me. I desire another challenge. Maybe a Japanese forum where haikus are being debated ?

Toudai Moto Kurashi goddamned !!

It doesn't sound stupid at all 🙂

The thing about debating (any debating ....not just on comic book characters but also in other fields and genres, as well as in day to day mundane exchanges between people on any topic) is this .....the ability to look at the entire picture and present a case that is not only holistic in perspective (looking at all sides), but also contains logical coherence, as well as depth and breadth of info/material on the study matter.

Those are the main areas where people go wrong .....they either:

a) are deficient in looking at the entire picture. A good analogy here would be a person defending, say, Colossus. Now, Colossus is an amazing character. He has a good number of feats under his belt, and his strength is prodigious to say the least. The Ultimate version of Colossus is even more powerful. Thus he is a great character to defend, and most people would be able to come up with many feats and attributes to back their case. The problem crops up if one is defending Colossus against, say, WonderWoman. Now, most people would only look at Colossus' attributes and thus simply say Colossus wins (you'll note most posts here are simply one word/sentence 'character X wins' ). They will not delve into, and analyze, WonderWoman ....a simple act that would make them see that there is NO WAY Colossus would manage a win against someone like WonderWoman. Not only is she stronger (by several magnitudes) but she is beyond fast, is a skilled combatant with (by one approach) over a millenia of combat experience, and has amazing resistance to blunt force trauma (Superman once punched her all the way from the sun to the Earth ....at which point she promptly stood up). It is evident that WonderWoman owns Colossus in every single way ....but if someone only looks at Colossus that point is negated. Now, that is a simple example, but i believe it captures the crux of the matter.

b) the other stumbling block is that there is lack of logical coherence in some posts (and in some instances some threads). A good example of this is some of the threads that a certain Wolverine fanboy used to make .....which would pit Wolverine against characters like Thor and Superman. Without going too much into this (since I've basically posted to exhaustion on those specific cases) let it suffice to say that there is much logical atrophy in such threads. Another similar case are the various threads by a certain poster (once he was posting the most threads a day ....probably still does) where he would have one or a small group of Marvel characters facing the entire DC universe. Once again, logic would dictate against such a match.

c) the other part is lack of an understanding on KMC rules. This is also a major error component on KMC. For instance according to KMC rules (where characters are fighting at their utmost and utilizing all abilities/attributes possessed by them) a character like the Hulk would never find a character like Wolverine to be the slightest bother. Now, in several comics the two go at it .....but based on KMC rules such a fight would never happen! The Hulk would simply backhand the hairy Canadian, and Wolvie would find himself flying off into the next state! Based on KMC rules PIS/CIS type scenarious should NOT occur, but many people forget this. Or take Gladiator for example .....in some of his comic book showings the guy has jobbed ....and jobbed major. Once he jobbed to Colossus. However, in a KMC battle he would not be jobbing. And a non-jobbing gladiator is basically at a whole different level from virtually all the characters he has faced in the comic books. Characters like Gladiator (and Superman, and Hyperion) have the ability to destroy most characters from MILES away ....even from orbit .....with no effort, and also have SEVERAL different ways of destroying most characters without even getting near them. With KMC rules already lethal characters (like the Gladiator) actually become more lethal since they are NOT jobbing! That is the difference KMC rules make, and it is an aspect ignored by many in the forums.

d) finally there is depth and breadth of subject matter. Intensity and extensiveness. When it comes to depth it means that the person should know a lot of the PARTICULAR thing they are debating (be it geo-politics, a scientific inquiry into whether or not genome research results should be freely available to the public or used for profit making purposes by the corporations that finance that research, or whether Spiderman is at 10 tons or 15 tons or more). Indepth understanding should be paramount. HOWEVER at the same time it is also important to have extensive knowledge .....knowing more than just that which you are debating. This will allow you to absorb any 'surprises' from your debating opponent, will allow you to come up with 'silver bullets' that I prefer to call debating nuclear weapons (basically pwning the other guy COMPLETELY with ONE shot), and will also add flavor to your debate.

Those are the main aspects for effective debating, and can work in nigh any debate (no matter the topic or its seriousness). The good thing about KMC is that it can really hone a person's debating skills (hey, if you can convince a person that one cape wearing character can defeat another one that wears his undies outside his pants, then you can be able to win ANY debate).
