I think the surprise will have to be something pretty big, seeing as Bush has just admitted that the US is losing the battle for Baghdad. That's something most sane people have realised for a long time, so he must be sucking everyone in for an astounding sucker-punch.
whatever the case, bush and company seem calm and confident that they will maintain the senate majority. the fact that they have waited this long can only mean that they have a baldface lie waiting to throw out, maybe it a 4 year old terror threat (remember that gem?) passed off as a new and imminent threat at choice political timing. the reason i see a lie coming is that there would be no time to investigate and refute a lie this close to election day, and by the time its found out...too late suckers
i am certain that something will happen.
there is no other explanation for such calm last minute confidence in the face of certain defeat...unless they just finally lost all touch with reality.
Maybe they're just going to come out and say:
"Look, guys...We've messed-up.
