The Phrase that Pays
She walked unsteadily through the woods, trying to clear her mind of the recent memories. Easier said than done. Roots and branches constantly got in her way, tearing and scratching slowly at her pale skin. It didn't really matter to her anymore. Asa was caught in an emotion between relief and pure shock, and her mind was lost as it tried to sort out what had happened in the past hour or so.
A distinct scent tore her attention away from the recent past. It was him, the gorgeous smell could not be mistaken for another, but something was terribly wrong. He wasn't himself, and Asa picked up her pace to find out what had happened.
Could they have killed him? Was she too late? His death would be her fault. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if Phayte had died. She couldn't possibly live with herself if anything had happened to him, if the only boy she had truly felt close to was gone because of her. Asa quickened her pace, pictures flashing before her of what torture the others were putting Phayte through. She'd seen it before, Edward sadistically taking in victims and watching them squirm pitifully until they moved no longer.
She had to be getting close, how far did Adrian drag her? Then again she could be going in circles, direction was never her clique. A rustle of leaves sent her heart racing, adrenaline pumping, and a hand to her slightly limp right arm's shoulder wound. Blood soaked through her fingers and she realized what had brought the monster she was now facing. But Asa knew this creature, the last glimpse she had of Phayte now stood before her, drooling, panting, staring. Corrupted seemed to sum it up for Asa. She just did not want to believe this uncontrolled thing could be the gentle human boy she wanted so badly. But then Asa remembered... She too could be that monster, that beautiful and powerful mutation that stood now ready to tear her throat out.
Yet Asa did not know if she too could completely control herself in that form. There was a large chance she could lose herself and end up hurting Phayte, something she was very much against. And so she stayed human, returning the gaze of the wolf. Asa swallowed the lump of fear in her throat and took a small step towards him, whispering his name.
"Phayte..."
