More like his double was sentenced to death. That isn´t saddam Hussein andyone can see that. He´s probably in S. American with the other brutal dictators.
Once Saddam is executed he becomes a martyr and a probable rallying point for radical Muslims. As a Muslim, the thought of spending the rest of his life in jail would be abhorrent to Saddam.
I say, put him in jail, trot him out on a regular basis to remind the world who he is and where he is and let him rot behind bars.
He won't be a martyr; he won't get his 40 virgins. His eventual death will lack the "honour" that radical suicidal Muslims crave.
Hang Saddam and it's all over bar the revenge of the radicals.
Incarcerate Saddam and he is a semi permanent living monument to justice.

They will start caring. Within months the new Democratic congress will likely put intense pressure on the EU and the UN and NATO to take a foothold in Iraq.
The EU doesn't give a hoot about Saddam. That's the way it should be by the way.

Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been sentenced to death, after a court found him guilty of crimes against humanity for ordering killings in the town of Dujail in 1982.Guards led Saddam away after he shouted "long live Iraq, long live the nation" in response to the verdict.
Iraq's former Chief Justice, Awad Hamad al-Bandar, was also sentenced to death by hanging for presiding over hearings that ordered the killings of about 150 people in Dujail. Saddam's half-brother Barzan Ibrahim, was another sentenced to death.
Saddam's former vice-president, Taha Yassin Ramadan was sentenced to life in jail.
Other defendants who were tried with Saddam also appeared before the verdict hearing.
The first, a minor Ba'ath party official, was acquitted. Three others were then sentenced to jail terms of at least 15 years.
Some of the tightest security ever seen in Iraq has been put in place for the hearing, after supporters of Saddam threatened bloodshed if he was sentenced to death.
Soon after the verdict was announced, Sky News reported a machine-gun battle broke out in northern Baghdad between police and unidentified gunmen. However, the Associated Press reported celebratory gunfire across Baghdad.
A panel of appeal judges will now review the death sentence against Saddam. If no grounds to appeal the decision are found, the former dictator may be executed within 30 days.
Tis truly sad to see him executed. One should never take pleasure in the misfortune of others, regardless of how "evil" that individual is alleged to be.
Makes me think about the old saying - "What comes around goes around..and what goes around comes around."
Rumsfeld has already been indicted in Germany - and with a democratic majority in the Senate and the House, who knows what will "come around" for others who got the US involved in this foolish war.
