Queen of the Night
Here is a little scene that popped in my head - what do you guys think?
------------------
Rain is lashing against the small house atop the hill. Dusk is falling, the house is dark and unlit candles lay strewn on the single table.
Elizabeth Swann-Turner, her hair damp and dress torn is huddled in a corner of the dark room. It has been two long months since the end of AWE and she is alone on the island. Though the drapes are not drawn, she is unaware of the ship with black sails anchored off shore.
The wooden door gives a creak as it opens, revealing the form of Captain Jack Sparrow. Elizabeth raises her head and gazes at him with unseeing eyes before returning to her previous study of the dirty floor planks.
"Lizzie" Jack whispers, walking quickly to her side. "Oh, Lizzie..how could you do this to yourself..."
"Jack?" she says, her words softer than the sea breeze. "Is that you?"
"Aye, I'm here now lass."
Her eyes, once so alive and fire-filled were empty and glassy in his gaze. Two months had destroyed the Elizabeth Swann he'd known and left this empty shell crumpled and broken on the floor.
"He...he..." Elizabeth gave a short dry sob. "He's gone, Jack. He left me."
"I know, lass. I know." Kneeling down, he tentively reached out and placed his hand on her chilled arm and drew her closer to him. Her frame, always light and delicate, was exceedingly thin and childlike, she came towards him with no resistance.
"Have you been all by yourself, then?"
She nods. "I've been so alone, Jack."
A few tears escaped her lashes and made a watery path down her cheek.
"He's not coming back..." she whispered. "He's not coming back..."
"He'll be back, Lizzie, just not for a while now..." He slowly rubbed his ringed hand up and down her back.
"I'm so alone Jack..." She drew her knees up to her chest, as if she were trying to hold herself together and keep herself from splitting in two.
"Lizzie...Is there...Can I...?"
"Can you just...hold me, Jack? Its been so long since I've been held..."
The look in her eyes and the innocence of her request nearly broke his heart. Sliding down the wall to sit next to her, he pulled her until her head was resting against his chest and she was wrapped firmly in his embrace.
"There we go, Lizzie-love. How is that?"
He felt a few stray tears sink through the fabric of his shirt.
"Thank you, Jack..."
