the only time I think Jack is really drunk is on rum runner island...other than that...it's all an act....if he were drunk he wouldn't be able to come up with all his clever plans and constantly be 10 steps ahead of everyone else...

The writers have said that Jack would like you to think that he's drunk or that he's half mad. It's a facade, similar to the way a super hero would don a costume.

Well, to each his own, I suppose...but I love the strong, in contol, sober Jack who just pretends that he is drunk to keep people off-guard, and to stay 10 steps ahead of his enemies....
