So where's the valid point that Weird Al made?

-AC

come on AC, you're not that stupid. 😛

nobody knows what hes saying unless you actually read the lyrics.

it has the same janitor in both videos

I smell bs. Got a link?

Cobain's thoughts on the video

MTV: What about Weird Al's "Smells Like Nirvana"?

COBAIN: Oh, I laughed my butt off. I thought it was one of the funniest things I ever saw. He has some good people working for him. Those people really know how to...I mean, I'm sure he has a lot to do with it, but they really know how to reproduce things to the T. He had the exact same setup. It's the same video with him in it. It's great.

MTV: Do you go along with the idea that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

COBAIN: Sure. Yeah.

Yeah, and? I asked where Weird Al made a valid point. I didn't have trouble understanding the point, I'm just not seeing a valid one.

-AC

the point he made is true, therefore it is valid.

Can't really say it's a valid point as that's true for a lot of artists, where you can't understand what they're singing unless you read the lyrics.

True? I can understand what Kurt is saying, while we're on the subject. Not that it even matters to me.

It's not a valid point, he's not saying anything revolutionary or profound. "I can't understand Cobain, so I'm making fun of him.". Where's the validity?

It aint BS
Kurt said it at the time of release and i remember it well what with me being a fan of Nirvana when Kurt was alive
Maybe he was having a bad day when he made the comment(he did have them)as i also recall him saying that he knew Nirvana had made it when Yancovic did a cover of the track in another tv interview at the time.

It was from the days before the internet hit big...when people used to read the music press....
so no i dont have a link.

i jsut looked valid up, and it is a valid point.

What is valid is based on or borne out by truth or fact or has legal force

i could be wrong, its not a big deal. agree to disagree?

"I don't understand what Kurt Cobain is saying.".

What kind of point is that?

-AC

Maybe the point was that Kurt Cobain was trying to seem deep. Or that people do not understand what he means. Or, or, or....I don't know what point Weird Al is trying to make just as much as I don't know what Cobain meant. But there's a point, I am sure...

a bad one, but a valid one nonetheless. i think it was more no one understands stands whats kurt cobain is saying than just him.

And do you see why that point is factually incorrect?

-AC

People are arguing it is valid because it is in some way true.

Others are arguing it is not valid because it is trivial.

It's a very trivial point. However, the main point is that it isn't some amazing piece of satire, it's just a Zeitgeist-humping parody. He could have done it with a Nile song, but it wouldn't have had the sales.

It wasn't some insightful deconstruction of modern music.

I like Amish Paradise. It makes me laugh. Because Amish people are funny.

yeah i see wehre you're coming from. i dont know why i defended taht so wholeheartedly, it doesnt have to be a fact to be true though. it can be someones opinion and still be true. and theres no way that when you first heard that song you understood every word.

Haha @ this thread.

Al is cool and alive. Cobain is dead.
In words of Homer: ''If he's so smart, then how come he's dead''.

I don't care for Cobain anyway...Al's new video is good, and better than the original video and song.

I like Cobain.

That means so much to me. Now I can leave my wife and 5 children to find Cobain. I heard he has a bar with Elvis somewhere. Thank you lil.
