Both Jor El and Zod were from the old school. Both trained and learned fields above and beyond what was expected of them. So it's clear Jor El was an adventurer and martial artist, roles that were not expected of him in the new school, but would have been common practice for the ancient Kryptonians.

So why were Zod and his commanders affected negatively when their mask got destroyed.. what it simply that they weren't used to the atmosphere of earth? how come they had superspeed right away upon arriving on earth.. when they first fought superman? DIdn't it take time and years for supeman to gain strength and speed like that?
