The first option would require at least a minute, which he would not have (try doing that while Colossus is struggling). Reed doesn't have the strength required to do the second one.

Reed gets tired(which he will) Colossus takes advantage, and manages a victory. Considering Colossus can fight for days, I think he can manage some victories via far superior stamina...
