And, yeah, yoda is my avatar, but cornponious is all mine. Google cornponious and everything you find is me. Google Kid Rock and you find quotes like these:
I didn't come from a trailer park. I grew up middle class and my dad had money and my mom made my lunch. I got a car when I was sixteen. I'm proud of that.
Kid RockI didn't want to go out and change anything. I just wanted to make the music that was part of my background, which was rock and blues and hip-hop.
Kid RockNow, I could understand it if he had said "I just wanted to make music that interested me" or something like that. But if he came from a middle-class family, and his dad had money, and his mom made him lunch every day, then rock and blues and hip-hop are definitely NOT "part of his background". Oh yeah, all the old Delta Blues artists came from wealthy middle-class families. Perhaps hip-hop could be "part of his background" if he had grown up in the inner city.
What a douchebag.
Man, I could go on and on putting down kid rock. It just makes me smile.

OMGoodness, his "background" is what he likes to listen to, so, all of it is part of his life, the type of music that influenced him as well as the type of home he was raised in. I'm black, but part of my "background" is classic southern rock, most of the songs on my Ipod is from whites and most of it is rock related music. Most of the songs remind me of a place in my life, part of my background. If someone else listened into my Ipod, they probably would "assume" I was "trying" to be white or anything that has nothing to do with the feeling that I have when I listen to those songs, they remind me of places I've been in my life, a window in my old room, my childhood, heartbreak...the songs have MEANING to me, but if someone were to look at my race, they would think only from their own limited perspective.
