Ha! You and me both. I haven't heard anything about Bootstrap Bill, and I find that sort of suspicious. Here Will is intending to sacrifice everything, his principles, his relationship with Elizabeth and everything else to fulfill this promise to his father, but there hasn't been much said about that. It was rumored a while back ago that J/E do something that Will cannot forgive. Everyone thought it was have sex, but I always wonder if they prevent him somehow from rescuing Bootstrap. I don't see that happening, since Bootstrap is also Jack's friend, but it's a possibility...
I'll tell you that I have heard that Bootstrap became a pirate with Jack. So they were both honest sailors on the Wicked Wench together. So Bootstrap knew Jack before he was a pirate, which I thought was interesting. And it explains a little about why it was Bootstrap essentially gave his life for Jack.

I don't think he does! And maybe that's part of Will's problem. He's always trying to rescue or save people that don't need or necessarily want to be saved. Think about Elizabeth in those terms as well.
Bootstrap tells Will that he owes him nothing for helping him to get the key, but Will makes this promise to him anyway. I think he had already made his peace with dying at sea.

That's the rumor, but I'll remain skeptical until he absolutely bites the dust on screen. I want to be believe, but it's hard for me to imagine. I can't really find a reason to hate or dislike Will.
Even as a J/E shipper, I think that his death would put a dent in our ship. I don't see Elizabeth chasing after Jack the moment that Will snuffs it. Unless Will becomes a homocidal sword swinging maniac in the third film, but I digress.
Anyway, if Will dies, that would be a huge shock. I think because it hasn't really been foreshadowed in the films.....or has it?
You could argue that his being part of Davy Jones' crew and then Bootstraps words are foreshadowing I suppose. But what purpose would his death serve? Thus far, he's been the most noble character out of all of them?
I think we are on the same page. There was a lot of knifes throwned, that is on Will's parts, death I can count them, First of all, when Bootstrap gives him the knife, when he is on the ship that gets eaten by the Kraken. When he is on top of the ship uses the knife by cutting the... what do you call it??? is it the mast..., when they are ready to blow up the kraken, he gets himself loose with the knife and when he hits the floor he throws the knife again. Ohh the countless times he threw it while he was in Tias hut at the end.
