Yes you can work to replace the cost to the owner. And as I said it also has to do with the level of savagery and cruelty involved.

Adultery is two consenting adults having sex when one or both is married. That is neither savage nor cruel and is not illegal in Canada, therefore your arguement is not relevent.

What make it right that your view should supersede that of others? As for the term savage it may not be but cruel is a relative term, the damage to someone psychology from their spouse cheating on them can be very damaging.

Not everyone is qualified to make laws or adjust them.
Same as you are not qualified to make assumption about black culture I suppose. Having a degree in any said subject or studying something does not make you qualified.
Someone with experience and who has to live in that environment would be far more qualified to say what they need done than a bigwig who goes home to his house on the hill.

If your going to try and bring religion into a debate on law I'm not even going to take you seriously. In Canada we make our laws based on preventing harm to the public, leave god out of it.
Where creating laws are concerned, the general public is to erratic and subjective to be involved.

Originally posted by StarhawkNo I brought that in to say that one view of a crime is different to others and that your view about the “majority” over the few is illogical. Just as law has evolved over time to make stoning someone over adultery wrong in modern society so is what you are purposing going back. Everything you have suggested and debated is nothing more than vengeance and hatred and nothing about law. It does and has been proven time and time again not to deter these types of crimes and killing off the offenders does nothing to solve the problem for the future so it is simply a matter or revenge.

Actually it does not. We are not talking computation and surgery; we are talking social and legal issues.Mind staying on topic?
I am, lawyers study through 5 years of university in Canada, this is after 3 years getting a bachelor degree and then they spend 2 years after that articling with a law firm. That makes them qualified.

Having a law degree does not make you an expert in social issues in which you understand the needs of the average citizen, for example.
Edit: I meant to include an expert at something outside of the degree. Kinda implied it but he knew what I meant. Sorry about that.
