As is my comment about horror pics not being just about gore and jumps but story too......see i said TOO meaning ALL three
Not seen MASTERS OF HORROR so i cant comment on JENNIFER
its a tv movie though about an hour long tho aint it with cuts?Your right i cant name any 80s indie horror movie with 3 sequels that were consistant
But YOU think SAW is consistant while i think 1,2 and 3 are equally crap so were onto a non starter there.
I can name a whole bunch of great Horror movies with crap sequels unfortunatly.........99% of them.
Re Animator was an indie with one crap sequel out of 3 but they didnt have the backing, advertising and budget of SAW so they ended up with a pile of crap to finish that series with when they shouldve just bowed out with BRIDE....most low budget directors want to make worthy sequels with good production values but they just dont have the money.Whats SAWs excuse??
On a side note, the Masters of Horror is a tv movie, each about an hour long, no cuts for the most part. Its a good series, and has A LOT of good "Masters of Horror" behind it. Still on the collecting side, so im not sure how many of them there are.
How wasn't Saw consistant? All of the characters tie in greatly, each with a back stabbing movtive and some connection to the people around them, the enviroments were connected and revisited through out saw 1 and 2, leading to three then being able to show a back story of why the girl is being "tested" in Saw 3. The killer always had a select plan of bringing everyone together and always came out on top of the victims. It wasn't just mindless, no story, killing. There was a deeper motive to it and a good story to back it up. The story was full, the dialogue was decent(suprising for anything near the horror genre), there were no plot holes, the acting was decent and the kills were creative. That right there speaks enough for the movie.

Wow, im amazed to see people who seem to hate the Saw movies so much. It was no where near an attempt at Seven or anywhere close, killing style was a resemblence, that was all. In saw the victims were chosen because the killer who appreciated life, hated those who did not and attempted to show them that there life was worth living, granted he did it in a sadistic manner, still not the point.I see Saw as a revolution among Horror movies, it brought to the masses and brought it well, a Horror movie. Something people could fear walking out of a theatre because well unlike the supernatural killers of the past, Jigsaw was real, and in todays world it could happen. It finally brought a great genre of movies away from the cheesy, lets try to be humerous, low budget flicks weve grown up with.
Now dont get started on the fact of bad writing, BADWRITING? These three movies tie together and twist into one another better than any triology ive seen. Reverting back to previous movies and keeping the story line in check. Did a damn better job than anything through the 1970's-2000.
The deaths were creative, unique. He wasnt running around with a knife, or being posessed, or a ghost, etc. Gore was plenty. Pushing your way through barbwire, cutting a live person open to get a key, putting your hand into acid, being thrown into a pit of needles, cutting your own foot off. Original. The deaths alone put Saw above every horror movie to date, the story line and how well the plot and everyone ties in together is beautiful.
Like I said for horror movies it was a Revolution, got them some respect(FINALLY!) A great story line, great actng by horror standards, great deaths, the story line staying consistant, and the killer always being on top due to human emotions. It made a great movie and a better triology. Period.
punk
I couldn't have said it any better.

Well said, my friend. Well said. Most of your points are very valid.
Now, I'd like to inform everyone that I don't think Saw is the best horror/thriller movie ever, or that it started a revolution. But, in my opinion, after seeing countless shitty horror movies and growing to not expect much out of the franchise, Saw surprised and impressed me (and please, for those of you who don't like the Saw movies, that's fine, but don't resort to bashing it's fans. That's childish).
I personally think that Saw is better than your average horror movie and that it's done in such a way that draws you in and makes it so you can't help but like it. Now obviously this isn't fully true, since we have so many people that hate it here on KMC, but I'm merely speaking for myself and maybe also for the others that are fans.
So far, when I've asked for why people don't like the Saw movies, they say bad writing. That's pretty much their only reason. I fail to see where the writing is any worse than your average horror movie. I consider it better.

I'm BAAACCKK!! I hate to bring this back to the limelight, but I hadn't seen SAW 3 yet and I have seen it and I have to say that the whole series has went down the terd tubes with avengance! Holy crapola, Batman! Saw was original, and then by the time we get to three its just rehashing itself! Yuck! I now officially hate the Saw sequels and only praise the original because it was just that. No other horror movie had done what Saw did, you left that damn theater or your house (if you rented it) wondering if there was truly some psycho out there that could knock you out and drug you long enough to set up some elaborate trap such as in the movie... Or at least I thought that anyway. Also since they've gotten the go ahead with a Saw 4, how much worse can it get?? Now its time for something to be more original than Saw 1 and become the new "thing". By the way I have had time to watch some of these other "classic horror" movies, and still haven't seen anything that impressed me as much as Saw did... Just what I thought, my opinion, and you can't change no matter how hard you try..
