Artists Discovered On MySpace

I was curious if anyone else has found worthwhile bands on MySpace.com? I, for one, scour it pretty much every other day, looking for new acts.

Thus far, I've ended up adding;

The Birthday Massacre - (Great DM like synth)
Walls of Jericho - (Female fronted HXC)
Sky Eats Airplane - (Incredible Electrocore)
Sleep Terror - (One man Meshuggah)
Too Pure To Die - (Great DOWN like Southern Metal)
Torture Killer - (Chris Barnes side project)
Enter Shikari - (More Electrocore, little heavier)
Protest the Hero - (Totally unique punk/hardcore)
Psychostick - (GREAT comedy metal band)

..and of course some already well known acts that I never really bothered looking into like MSI, JFAC, The Acacia Strain, Between the Buried and Me.

Just my cousin's band.

First Communion Afterparty

a friends band, great stuff. only 2 songs are up (which are very old) but i recommend catching live shows if you live in the Minneapolis area.

The Peabody Incident

A friend's band. They're the best thing since the combination of porn and high speed internet connection!

This guys pretty good with a lap top and an old roland !

If I ever visit a band's MySpace it's after I've discovered them and want to find out more or check them out. Can't say I've ever discovered a band on it.

-AC

Jeniferever was the only one I've discovered on it

The Remainders
The Ergs!
Riverboat Gamblers
The Copyrights

The Epoxies

I gave up on Myspace Music after I heard a track by Hollywood Undead.

There are 2 acts that I've really liked and seen live:

Patrick Alan Casey

Awesome Band

I discovered MJR5 on myspace and they are really good, check them out for sure.

I look up underground thrash and grindcore on myspace, and there are some great bands out there, it's too bad that looking up bands on myspace is looked down upon.

I don't know if its because of people like Lily Allen being discovered on myspace, or if its because of myspace itself, or if there is a real reason, but it's useful, imo.

Burning Madison - I actually tried to set up an audition to be their vocalist back in May (they were looking for a new one), but my daily schedule quickly piled up once I started college and I didn't even get to talk to them about it. Oh well.

Started listening to this band "Helios" through myspace, I recommend their stuff. They make quality ambient music.

Lily Allen wasn't really discovered on myspace...she has a celebrity dad and it was more of a case of who you know than what you can do that got her "discovered".

Ironically the people who look down on discovering bands on myspace invariably end up being in some shitty band that promote their stuff on myspace.

And a related way to look for new music...Go onto play.com or amazon or itunes...search for an artist you like and check the other recommended artists...i found quite a few of my favourites that way.

You can also try http://www.gnoosic.com. It asks for three of your favorite artists, then lists off similar bands and asks if you've heard of them before. It's really interesting, and I've found it as a good way to expand my music library.
