The guy destroyed the universe with Entropy, was able to briefly match King Thor, and wiped out two giants easily that would have caused problems for King Thor's Asgard. Among others.
Hell, they even had a conversation about whether Genis was God or not.
The origins are entirely irrelevant, but Genis is more powerful than Mar-Vell naturally due to his mother. Although I'm sure you have scans that state Entropy powered up Genis, so there's probably that...
