how big is wolfmother

yes, we're well aware

There's a difference between being innovative with an older style and sounding like you're trying and failing to play Heartbreaker.

One is Patton, one is Wolfmother.

Jazz is older than dinosaurs, but Patton doesn't sound like any jazz band or musician when he dips into the genre. Wolfmother sound like...exactly what everybody says.

I think it's funny how just a few weeks ago Cine was saying there's hardly a more versatile vocalist than Phil from All That Remains.

Gotta laugh.

How's that relevant to this? I still hold the same opinion, FWIW.

I don't see how anyone could logically claim Phil LaBonte to be anywhere near as versatile as Mike Patton once they truly know how versatile Patton is.

-AC

I was only suggesting versatility as far as incorporating a few different styles in one song. In Phil or Howard's case, four of them. Mike Patton, I've never known Mike Patton to do that, but my exposure to FNM/Bungle/Fantomas is pretty limited.

I guess "Zombie Eaters" is a good example. Kudos on the Gojira set.

None of Mike Patton's bands sound anything alike. So don't assume he's just singing in a few different styles, he takes his vocals beyond singing, he uses them in ways you can't even begin to comprehend yet.

My main advice to you would be not to download singular songs from those bands, more so from Bungle and Fantômas, because you won't get what's happening. It's the worst thing you could do if you're trying to get into his work.

not so sure about that though.

Considering his knowledge of the bands and Mike Patton is limited to barely knowing the song Epic, yes, he can't possibly comprehend how diverse the man is with vocals. There are near 30 albums from many different bands in a ridiculous amount of styles that he hasn't heard, and even upon hearing, will need to listen to repeatedly before they can be appreciated.

Not sure where the problem was. It has nothing to do with Cine, I'm not saying he's stupid, I'm speaking about the music.

My exposure is limited, but I haven't been living under a rock since 1988, either. After having sampled all the albums, I can say he's the most versatile vocalist ever. Doesn't necessarily mean it always works, i.e. Peeping Tom is just bizarre.

I think Peeping Tom, if anything, is one of his least bizaare projects.
