Jaspers despite all his power is still human and is limited both by his human imagination, experience and knowledge as well as by his human reaction times/durability. That is why the Fury was able to kill him. Despite alll his power Jaspers fought crudely, just combatting Fury h2h and by shapeshifting.
To enhance himself physically Jaspers has to consciously use his reality power to make his desires actuality. With his human reaction times Phoenix would have incinerated him way before that happened.
Jaspers was heralded as a potential threat to all existence if he wasnt stopped. He was stopped quite easily. Jaspers cannot kill Jean if it is her will to stay alive. Jean can kill Jaspers. She can take him outside of reality where he is powerless or she can amputate his origin out of the timeline.
Jim Jaspers is NOT a Human, even though that mis-information is being pumped by this individual,
Jaspers is a Mutant, just like Jean.

Jim Jaspers had to be given a Plot Device to be stopped, that would be the FURY.
The FURY was created by Jaspers himself:

This was the only weakness that Alan Moore (the Writer) was able to give Jim Jaspers.
In other words, ONLY the FURY (which was created by Jim) can or could defeat him.
After a long fight, the FURY killed Jim but was weakend by Jaspers, Captain Britain and company took advantage and killed the weakened FURY.
