I respectfully disagree. If America had a Third party of a decent size, then maybe. But voting for an independent is basically throwing your vote away, unless you're in Vermont

As long as he have a majoritarian system of elections, third party systems will be impossible. One of the oldest laws in Political Science.

Besides, if you vote for candidates who don't engage in mudslinging, politics gets cleaner. Besides, thats a fairly narrow perception of politics which usually results from not understanding the system.
