No need to become angry Alliance. I'll admit my mistake RC is the second branch. How do Catholics and Roman Catholics differ, however? (besides the pope)
I just get annoyed when I constantly have to repeat myself.
Catholic (êáèïëéêüò) means 'universal'. When the Christian Church was first formed, it was universal. When "officially" established by Constantine in Constantinople, it became the Church of both the Roman and Byzintine Empires. The Seven Ecumenical councils and the Councils of Nicea worked out early Church policy.
The Great Schism, as lil alluded too, was a split in the Catholic church circa 1054 CE. There's a lot of material based on this and reasons for the split.
Thus we end up with two Christian sects, one in Rome and one in Constantiople. Yet, both view themselves as the Catholic (universal church), the one in Rome distiguised itself by being Roman Catholic (the Church lead by the Pope and the one we know today).
There are a lot of differneces, especially in Church structure, I'm sure Wikipedia has some info, I'm not entirely familiar with every aspect and I need to get to class 🙁.
