They were actually supposed to be.Bushido included a form of "structured homosexuality". I believe it was meant to increase comradery and reduce distraction from women.
Thats a similar thing that the Spartens did to Sparten women. They encouraged girl on girl sex, of course they didnt need to encourage the guys to have guy on guy sex.
Makes sense when you think about what they were trying to acheive.

Apparently The Koran does condemn homosexuality in 4:16. They seem to equate the act with adultery, punishable by death. Many nations in the Arab world have backward policies. THe UAE has horrible restriction of Internet use, including a monopolistic telecom system that is easy for the government to tap. All hard to monitor Internet telephone services are blocked, as are .il sites (Israeli State sites) and any content inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates." (that includes pornography) Media is prevented from criticising the royal family. They have rampant worker abuse policies (poor conditions, strikes are illegal, worker abuse by corporations without government intervention). There is also supposedly a large child sex trade. Homosexual acts are punishable by death (Urizen, its not for you).
So, despite how "nice" and cultural the UAE is, I won't be visiting anytime soon. Unfortunately for Dubai, no amount of Las Vegas style skyscrapers will solve their government's moral issues.
I think Doha (Qatar, not the UAE) showed the world when they hosted the Pan-Asian games last year how unready some areas of the world are to join the GLOBAL culture.
Alliance and I don’t think The US is any better .The Internet restriction is sucks sometimes especially political one I have to say that. The majority of the population are foreigners (workers) and The government did it job and they make laws to protect the worker but most companies bring worker who has no residence or work visa and that’s make the government helpless .First time I heard of child sex trade . 😕
Just to point out that the education in all levels includes universities and colleges ,health care and houses ,farms for citizens are free . The royal family is very generous and peaceful , women supporter but I think they need to be more open and that doesn’t change the fact that they're doing a great job till now .The democracy is coming no doubt just need a time .
