Thank you
Originally posted by roughriderThank you! Somebody is finally honest. I saw the movie yesterday and I have to say that it sucked, big time. Nicholas Cage sucked in the role of Johnny Cage, his acting was so wooden. It was cool that there was some comedy in the movie but there was too much for a character of Ghost Riders nature. . I felt that the storyline was weak and Eva Mendes served no useful purpose in the movie. I also believed that the writers tried too hard in showing Ghost Riders toughness. It reaked of effort and only resulted in making Ghost Rider look campy. Peter Fonda was cool though, that was a rare good call on Mark Steven Johnsons part. Basically everybody in the movie sucked except Peter Fonda. I hope that there is a sequel to redeem the character.
I've been a fan since the early Johnny Blaze days.I saw it last night - it sucked. 😠 👇
Mark Steven Johnson shows the same consistent approach he used with Daredevil - the result is a badly edited, narratively clunky mess with subpar FX, campy performances with so many howlers in the script, I was closing my eyes. Eva Mendes just adds to the crapfest, with work that belongs in the Grace Kelly-High Noon Hall Of Fame, for annoying females leads.
Best parts were seeing Peter Fonda as Mephisto (a tribute to his king of the motorcycle days with Easy Rider), and seeing Ghost Rider himself (thankfully not speaking in Cage's voice.)
I quite enjoyed it. I'm not huge in the comics but I like the character. The effects were great. I really got excited when he first turned into the Ghost Rider and when he got the Hellcycle. It had some pretty good action.
I did have some small beefs with it though. Blackheart was hardly Blackheart. The comic relief came on a bit strong. It was too easy to defeat some of the villains (but Blackheart just wouldn't die so it evens out).
And the line, "I'm the only one that can travel between both worlds. I'm Ghost Rider." Great line. But I thought that would've implied that he'd go to hell in some point in the movie....
Also, I think they should've pushed it to an R rating.
The FX were ungodly. The way Ghost Rider looked, everything he did, it just all looked amazing, except for that crappy CG helicopter at the rooftop scene.
Yeah, some spoilers down here, I guess.

I think he defeated all the villains quickly because of the fact Ghostrider was always extremely powerful. Everyone says the fight scenes and stuff were rushed, but Ghostrider honestly wouldnt have much of a problem with those Villains, I mean, hes fought much worse and has come out unscathed, so.
They named Mephisto Mephistopheless because he didnt act anything like he did in the comics. In the comics he was stupid and slap happy and liked to play tricks and cheat people. He wasnt all dark and like "Boo, ima demon! Ima demon!" and crap.
I dunno... I'm done. I just know the movie was entertaining, albeit not the best.
I gave this opinion in the other GR movie thread. I suppose it really belongs here:
First 10 minutes were a lesson in bad writing. I understand they needed some exposition for the story but it came off as painfully contrived.
The rest of the story was good, but with 2 major failings:
They blew 2 opportunities to have a great fight scene (his battles against wind and water were weak)
and THE GHOSTRIDER DOESN'T MAKE STUPID JOKES!!!
His parting words to Mesistophiles were also corny. The idea is right, but there has to be a better way to say it.
P.S. I think Nick cage and Sam Elliot are fine actors who did a decent job with the weak dialogue they were given.
Ghost Rider now joins the long elite list of Marvel Characters butcher by greed and desire for money profit making. Horrible acting and does no justice to the coolness and kick ass image of the Ghost Rider some of us grew up with. The jokes in GR were enough to make me nearly walk out. Even worse Blackhearts lines.
Not gonna bother arguing the point from here on...all I ever get will be "if you didn't like it then don't watch it" from the fanboys. If you're a fan of GR....just rent the DVD. Don't pay a movie ticket price for this flick. That's my advice...take it or leave it.

I'm a GR fan but I thought it was a piece of shit.
Too cheeseball, which I expected, but it should have went for the darker more serious feel like Blade 1. Instead it seemed aimed towards the younger audience - which is just stupid since one of the main characters was "satan". (technically mephisto, but the movie treated him as the biblical satan, which was crap)
