The Monitor even says : .. and it wipes away everything that gave me meaning.

A Monitor's meaning is to supervize his Universe ..

He also says in the next page : It is the cruelest irony that in this Universe I alone survived.

And that plant surviving is a shock even for him, and he assumes that it was probably spared because of his personal shields, or maybe a miracle.

In any instance, now we really saw what power Monarch was packing 😉
