I was a performance major for 2 years, and still play quite often. And yes, the similarities are myriad....like I said, I should have edited in that comment to begin with.

P.S. I will admit, however, that with sigs, a lot more than I'd care to admit is probably "how does it look to me"...though I try to work in technical aspects as much as possible too.

Yay violins!

I really want to start playing again, it's been a few years. First I need to afford a new violin though and yeah, they're a bit pricy. Not really a luxury I can afford.

I was a art major originally (digital media to be specific), but pretty soon came to a realization...art is my hobby. My main hobby, that is. It's probably one of the most important things to me. But if I was going to be doing it for a career...it'd turn into an obligation. I would HAVE to do it constantly, instead of just creating things on a whim or when I get random inspiration. If I did that...I would run the risk of getting bored with it, of getting fed up with it...not really something I would want to happen.

Plus, I really don't think I would have been able to get used to creating things within restrictions and not being able to just flow and see what happens. I dunno. It just would have been hard for me and I'm just glad I realized that.

I was actually expecting that comment eventually (I almost edited in something saying "though they can be quite similar in many respects"😉.

....but yeah, I could make cliched analogies, or simply talk generally about my approach to the two mediums. Either one would produce quite a few similarities, despite the differences. But I definitely take music more seriously. It's not my job, but I make money doing it (and also do it just for fun many times), and have invested way more time into it. Image editing...not nearly as much

I do research full time, but without pay. Doing design is the only way I can make money during the school year.

@ Lana, creating within restrictions isn't that bad. Your personal work will always be better, but I just look at it as I get compensated for submitting something thats not perfect. 😛

I sell prints of my artwork...doesn't really pay the bills or anything, but it does give me some extra spending money, which I usually use to keep all my various sites I have paid accounts for paid for, and then to decorate my room with prints of artwork (my own and others).

And I tend to be a perfectionist and I've never been happy with anything I've thought to be less than perfect. You should see how pissed I get when I'm working on something and can't get it to work out as I have it in my mind...and trying to create what someone else has in their mind? Not easy.

I have been kicking around the idea of starting to take some commissions, though, to add to my print selling.

I do more corporate design. Logos, shirts, program art...etc. Least when I'm not hacking asbestos out of buildings with illegal aliens at 2am.

Wow. You know it's an interesting topic when I bring lesbianism into the conversation and we still stay on topic.

*gazes in wonder*

...nice try though TOH.

I've done stuff like that, but not really since high school; my friend and I took a graphic design class and pretty much finished everything for the semester in about a month, so our teacher would give us other projects to work on. We ended up designing t-shirt logos for about 6 different school clubs, the cover for the winter sports program book, business cards for the restaurant the school was running, etc.

Can't say I've ever done the second, though 😛
