Science Fiction Comics

There have been some comics of late that I think that can be defined as science fiction comic books without that 'super hero' fantasy eliment attachments. Science Fiction - as in something serious along the lines of a good SF type novel mindset, or at least maybe something just darn entertaining similar to TV Scifi.

I was very tempted to put Mike Barron and Steve Rude's 'Nexus'. I suppose it cold easily be super hero OR Science Fiction or both. It It's a tough one because it has the fantasy eliments, like Superman, but it's seems almost like 'the Red Star' in it's attempt to paint a futuristic society and/or space travel.

Any others?

I would say Vash the Stampede counts as a superhero

There are some hair splitters (like Nexus and Vash). But you still have a futuristic setting and a society. It seems to me these can easily be categorized into the science fiction genre, or at least it would be nice to have a list of something other than the usual listing of Superman & Batman (that are mostly fantasy).

So it's an attempt to list something that could possibly belong in a Science Fiction genre category like 'Star Gate' or 'Star Trek' or 'Lost In Space'.

so basically no hoodoo voodoo "power cosmic" and supers who substituted radioactive spider bite with space magic

Dead corps(e)

Transmetropolitan

Ministry of Space

we3(if you accept this might as well add Elephantmen to the mix)

Orbiter

Ocean

Fear Agent

Jeremiah Harm

Electropolis? Daisy Kutter? Terminal City?(not sure, I usually try to separate steampunk from pure scifi)

I'm not going to name manga because well there are so many and there is a reason there's a separate board for that.

Ghost in the Shell are some other ones sci-fi comics

Do webcomics count, if so I suggest Schlock Mercenary

Most of these sound less like sci-fi than just plain anime.

I think there's plenty that can carry the Science Fiction tab these days - the genre needs to do what it hasn't done before and shine a spotlight on the new, original, and unknown SF comics that has emerged over the years for others to discover.

A few were comic books first that were then later adapted into anime. To call them anime only is to put the cart before the horse, or it's also like saying Flash Gordon was originally a movie before it became a comic. For once, let's give some credit to the comic book medium where it's due and shine the light on it.

Most of those are actually for quite some time ago they're not very new.

Superman and Batman is new? My point really is to bring out a category of comics that can be overlooked often.

I said they weren't new. In the opening post it seemed like you were saying they were.

Most of those are good I'm a big SciFi fan though so my opinion is skewed.

Zombies vs Robots... or Robots vs Zombies, im not sure which

I've seen 2 issues on the trackers, really messed up and cool

and then there is Girls... I guess it depends on how strict you want to define sci-fi

I think digi just got the term Manga confused with anime.

Considering the popularity here(and in the way it's used as almost a substitute for TV and other movies in japan) Manga doesn't really need to have a light shine on it on in the comic boards. Yes there basically comics with no color but there is a separate board for it.

as for more western scifi comics I can't believe I left out Y the last man.

There is also NYC mech

Iron west( once again steampunk..don't really know your stance on it but it has robots 🙂 )

Then there are the whole alien/predator comics that added a lot to those universes so much so that they started adapting things from them into the movies.
