I have read it; from cover to cover. But it has been 25 years, so I'm a little lost. What does the image of god have to do with enlightenment?

God is also flawed. To be perfect is a big flaw.

Why do you think that? His research in no way excuses their behavior. He's attempting to dechipher where it starts. Lots of people get in car accidents, but they don't become serial killers. Nor is he saying they shouldn't be able to control their impulses.
