...No, I don't really think your comic knowledge had anything to do with it. 😐

If knowing stuff would be reason to be banned, our entire team and many others would have been banned ages ago.

Banned? ... we'd have been hunted down and killed.

😎

Probably tortured first, too.

🙄

We'll as you can see below .We've been told we can take part as long as we use known characters 😬 from Marvel etc. this helps out many of the participents in this tourny quite a lot and rather restricts us and our creativity. Devil Lances pm.

😬 Actually no.... You wouldn't as most knowledge you both display is very mainstream.....

This is a Marvel dominated forum...

It doesn't reflect badly on you really 😉

Honestly what is this obsession with trying to show that you know so many comic book characters? 😬

It's really not an obsession it's just this forum shoould be a place to discuss all comics, not just the often derivative and poorly written chain store comics where due to a company fanbase the invetiveness is often stifled in favour of the safe. Corporate comics ❌
The sad thing is innovators started them both and many of the writers now playing the part of hacks were once the Darren Darings of comics.

This is a forum about discussing characters of all types but the fact of the matter is this.

There are so many comic book characters and most people don't have the money to really buy any and every comic out there. Generally people go with the mainstream characters because it is what they grew up with. That and they are a safe bet to say those are the titles that will be in publication and therefore won't get canceled.

So if your expecting people to all of a sudden just pick up a different title just because you think those comics aren't good really is kind of I don't know absurd.

Although for some reason I don't think that is entirely your intention here. 😛

I think we should challenge our writers to suprise us and multi title crossovers are not really the best way to do this. Neither are events like the "death" of Superman or Captain America. 52 and Civil War have both had there moments but.....

As to tried and tested characters usually they come with so much baggage... You can't tell me Bendis work on New Avengers is near his work on Powers for example. Unless it is a totally new direction and reboot like Extremis Iron Man or All Star Superman. Give me something with less baggage all the time.

That is your preference to do so but that doesn't mean that because you like non-mainstream that it is actually better than Mainstream. truth be told I just like a good story with good characters and I can get that from Mainstream and non-mainstream. To me they are basically the same only the character history changes. 😬

How often are we suprised by an ongoing series though?

Let's think about the truly suprising in comics.

Fables maybe, or Lucifer perhaps issue 1 of the new Authority series placing the Authority in the real world...... How many of these had really well known characters?

No, but his work on Daredevil defenitely rates with his work on Powers. Mainstream character stories are great too, and I like them because of the long mythos behind them...That is not to say that I don't like other stories. Vertigo line is one of my favorites with Sandman, Fables and Lucifer.

So you like to be surprised and shocked more in comics. I don't really care like I said I care more for the story and characters.

I can get both from Indie and Mainstream comics honestly.

Its just personal preference as to which you prefer or don't prefer or even if you prefer both.

I guess something deconstructionist really... I love how all the comics conventions are being used in All Star Supes and yet at the same time being broken. Tom Strong always suprises me. At the moment I find 52 fun but nothing in it is really suprising. I think we'd all seen though a certain Croc.....

IMO the only way to ensure quality is to 'follow' writers rather than characters and story lines. 🙂

I think though some writers become hacks.
