i guess . . . 🙁
i STILL don't know what the new rules are.
be easier to just call it sub-herald, imo. most high/mid-tier guys can at least battle a herald leveller for a bit but wouldn't beat them without PIS. that would be apoc level.
if firelord can beat your pick, he/she should be fine. there will ALWAYS be some ambiguous characters. if someone flirts with the caps, so what? i had no problem with anyone drafted last rd EXCEPT engineer who seemed clearly WELL over the cap in a couple areas.
regardless of the level that is set, if i'm to participate in this thing this time, there are a couple things i'd really like to see:
1. i want somewhere a VERY CLEARLY DEFINED SET OF RULES in a new thread.
2. i want to see a list of a dozen or so characters who are NOT acceptable -- NO QUESTIONS ASKED. clearly define who is and is NOT acceptable and picking should be easier.
3. i'd also like to have a 'captain' nominated for each team. TO DAMN MANY COOKS IN THE KITCHEN! the only time those captains would come into play would be in the case of deciding whether a character is acceptable. if a proposed character is ambiguous, all captains vote on whether the character is good or not -- tp has the final, deciding vote in the event of a tie. takes some of the pressure off of him as well. and yeah, yeah, people will vote out ambiguous characters on principle or because they're a really good pick -- maybe they would. or maybe the captains would actually give HONEST opinions and say the character IS all right.
either way, if everyone knows everyone has a say in who is accepted, that should ALSO help ensure none of the nonsense from previous tournaments happens. more importantly perhaps -- it would save the hassle of having to pm tp a pick to be ok'd. that way, no one has to worry about someone secretly sending him scans and working on him and working on him until he finally gives in. a character is simply proposed in a draft, if they are questionable, captains vote -- no arguments, no discussions. it would head-off the bickering that was sooooooooooo annoying this time around.
bear in mind -- even IF someone does flirt with caps -- WHO CARES!!!! the power variations between chaarcters who were selected in the draft were NOT so great that they couldn't be overcome with solid debating by a team. even engineer wasn't SOOOO far beyond some of the picks that she would have been impossible to beat -- though given the versatility she had she WOULD have been a big advantage, which is why i had a problem. everyone was SSSOOOOOOOOO concerned about one team getting one character who was maybe a bit over caps in one area or other. stop whining. the differences are NOT great enough that solid debating can't overcome them.
4. the whole idea of these 'amping' caps being seperate from the characters we pick needs to be looked at closely. if we can pick charcters within the caps, we should be able to mesh them however we want. if someone is clever enough to find a way for ironman to fire a planet-destroying blast -- good for them. impossible, but good for them. that would make things easier as well. if judges or participants feel the meshing is illegal, or non-sensical, take it to tp and he can rule on it or call it PIS and disallow it. any HUGE meshing attacks should be brought to tp first for checking anyway as they will be in the battle-prep write-ups.
5. neutering characters to fit under caps -- this is tricky. i'd be happy saying that if a character exceeds any single cap, they are banned. be the easiest thing and head off headaches but i really think this is an issue that needs to be discussed and clearly understood by everyone.
sorry for the lengthy post, however, many of us ALREADY put a lot of time into this thing and it went down the crapper. if i'm to invest that much time again, i want things crystal clear.
