"make/your/choice."

"Heph, I think it would be the best to give the key to the Hunter. He is likely to know much more than we, so he could actually make a choice he is absolutely sure about. I also think that what is behind is of great importance to him, and we kind of stepped into this mess without good reason. He also doesn`t seem to be our enemy and I am almost sure he will open it"

"I've made mine," Heph says. He moves to open the Door, fitting the Key into the lock...

"How long do we have...and just how are we going to get out of this mess?" San asks, still somewhat hoping that the number of sentinels is off.

"If you don`t like my reasoning, than do it." -Melkor doesn`t seem very unhappy that his idea was rejected.

(By the way Zink, I am not sure if you have read my last post since we posted at the same time)

(Yeah, but I went back and read it; my answer doesn't change)

You want to take responsibility without placing it on another? It seems like a mature choice.

Okay, my final answer- Melkor would give the key to the Hunter, since he thinks that he is more "qualified" to make such an important choice, but he is okay with Heph opening it, since he actually rather wants it open. After all, Heph has the key.

The key turns...

"Neo? What's wrong?"

"I.. don't know... something's changed."

---

"Two minutes? Maybe?" says Sequel.

Heph turns the Key until the lock clicks.

"Here goes nothing..."

Heph will now open the Door.

Melkor freezes with total anticipation , and suddenly the moment of opening seems to last eternity.

Mors sighs.

"Charge the EMP. Ariadne, are the guns online?"

"Dallas, you've got something up your sleeve, right?" Hawk is quietly panicking at the prospect of 3000 Sentinels attacking at once.

"Hell, I can't believe I signed up for this..."

Dallas is looking stony-faced and quiet.

"But... you'll kill them..." says Ariadne.

Mors sighs.

"I don't have any alternatives. Either we keep at broadcast depth and fight the Sentinels off until they can escape, or..."

Mors falls quiet, observing that Dallas is likewise.

"What's on your mind, Captain?"

"Dallas, you can't just kill them. Not after everything," says Ariadne.

"It's either them, or it is them AND us!" says Sequel. He swallows, hard, and adopts a friendly tone, almost concilliatory. "Listen... it's too late for them. We're all going to miss them. But they're gone. Not their bodies... but their minds. Victims of the war."

"They're not gone yet! They can get out after they open the Door! Somehow. You can't kill them!" Hawk argues, making his way over.

Mors falls quiet, greatly disliking the prospect of making this life and death decision.

"Is there any way we could get that helicopter in time?" Mors asks.

"In two minutes?" says Sequel. "Not even NEO could do that!"

"Can they get out, Ariadne?" says Dallas, quietly.

"The Hunter has no more signal isolators. And... the Agents have surrounded the lake. There's no way out."

"There's no choice, Captain," saud Sequel.

Dallas lets out a long, long sigh.

"EMP," he says. "I'll do it."

Mors shuts his eyes, gritting his teeth.

"I'll do it with you, Captain."

Ares stands by, silent.
