Well, they are in Tortuga. A couple of months ago, there was a guy who is in one of the extras of the set and said that the strumpets DO cry because of something that said Jack. Jack being an honest good man 😄.
I believe the order on how it goes is that he says something that "truth hurts" as they say. And led them to slap him. But after that I don't know. I just know they get rejected and of course we see Jack and Gibbs giving a "thanks, mate. Take what you can, give nothing back" like savvysparrow said.
Then we see Gibbs escort the crying strumpets while Jack looks out with a determined face. I can't help but squee.
I agree with the tortuga thing.
And i like the sound of the whole 'truth hurts' speech that jack will give to the strumpets
i sense that by the end of AWE that jack and liz will do some sort of role reversal as to what they were walking about in the 'curiosity' scene.
For some reason, i feel that by the end of AWE, elizabeth will be a true pirate and jack will be a truly good man....
Would that count as the characters coming full circle???
Well, I wouldn't say that they've changed at all. Rather, I would say that the true nature of their characters are revealed.
Jack's history is revealed: he was never meant to be a pirate.
Elizabeth's path is revealed, she is and always was the best pirate of them all.
I suppose that you could argue that Jack's path is circular. He started life on land as a good man, and will, at least in my mind, close the films in the same way, living on land as a good man, with a streak of pirate in him.
Ok, can we go back to discussing Beckett for a few minutes. I think the idea that Beckett is related to Jack in some way other than he was Jack's boss is an interesting theory.
I'm not saying that I believe Beckett and Jack are related by blood. But as I think about the intricate manner in which Beckett manipulates Jack, I can't help but wonder how well these two characters know each other.
I'm going to put out a hypothesis that Beckett and Jack were once friends. Jack had the things that Beckett wanted, good looks, height, charisma, a ship, a commission, perhaps even a girl.
I'm thinking that their relationship may have been similar to the characters in the Count of Monte Cristo--who incidentally also invents a persona to hide his true identity--sounding familar?
In the Count of Monte Cristo, Dantes has everything, a girl, the ship, the accolades and his best friend is insanely jealous. So, his friend sets him up to be arrested and taken away.
Beckett may have done something similar in that he gives Jack a mission he know he cannot complete--transporting slaves. Knowing full and well that Jack will refuse to execute his orders, Beckett then has justification to act to sink the Wench to the depths while forcing Jack to watch. He also makes him an outlaw so that he can no longer be a member of society.
Dantes escapes from the prison eventually, and invents a persona for himself--the Count of Monte Cristo. Meanwhile, Jack has Davy Jones raise the Pearl from the depths and invents a persona for him self--the infamous Jack Sparrow.
What I don't understand is why Beckett continually offers Jack the chance to work for the East India Trading company. I know it's best to keep your enemies close, but he seems to go out of his way to spare Jack's life. Why?
I belive they grew up together so they have this bondage and growing up i am guessing like you that jack had it better and beckett was jealous. I belive that Jack was probably over beckett in society range and maybe they were both following under one man and Jack was given a mission to complete and beckett knows that Jack wouldn't do it like you said, so maybe he was a little too jealous and did something and Jack came back empty haded like beckett knew and whoever was their lead gave beckett a better posion higher than Jack and because jealousy is an evil thing he sank the wicked wench to the bottom and branded jack a pirate and jack did something still unknown to us to him and over the years they grew apart beckett kept getting higher and higher in civilization and eventually became a lord and Jack is and still a pirate and they hated each other but i think beckett didn't try and kill Jack because of their old bondage from the years earlier that is why he asked him to be a privateer. this is all my theory and opinion sorry if kinda long.
I love Jack and Beckett together.
Oh, that's going to be so kickass when Jack does what he does...his good deed...
Yum, lasagna!
Jack was always a good man...saved a complete stranger from drowning after all...it's just that he's been conditioned that no good deed goes unpunished...tends to make a person leery of good deeds after awhile. I can't see Jack living on land and happy though...it'd be like the Elves in Lord of the Rings when the Sea is calling to them. Certain people are water babies...they need to be close to the water or they die.
I know my theory is unpopular but I still feel the only reasoning that truly satisfies me...is that Beckett is in love with Jack, that's why he can't bear to have him killed. Beckett could have been pissed that Jack didn't feel the same way and could have been part of what lead to their parting ways.
you ladies are freaking me out...I'm like having anxiety attacks....and If Mina is happy...then I'm happy....Happy, Happy, Happy....I can't wait to see Jack be the good man....of course we knew all along that he was a good man...some people come on here and try to say we are wearing jack sparrow colored glasses and refuse to see that he isn't as good as we think he is......but we all know the truth, don't we????!!!!
