Rob Van Dam wasn't "dangerous" to work with. He's an expert martial artist, he has huge amounts of control in the ring.
However, anything is dangerous nowadays. It's why big guys can't be taken seriously, because power moves aren't allowed. As soon as they stopped Lashley going mental and using The Dominator, he became just a big guy powerslamming people.
They've always been more interested in protecting their stars than say, ECW was, or TNA is, but they've taken it too far now. They might as well have cushions in the ring. I say "now", last I saw.

B) He was much more talented in the ring than most people in WWE, ever.
He didn't get a run cos he's ex-ECW. The same reason Booker T didn't, despite being on fire at many points in his career. Sting said it himself. The first time Booker T and The Rock came face to face, The Rock said "Who are you?", and it just demeaned and undermined Booker T's character.
