I honestly don't consider HHH to have been a big draw, tbh. I always felt like he was the guy that worked with the guy that drew all the money. Austin, Rock, Taker, Cena etc. Even later on with Punk, Hardy and Bryan. I'm not saying he didn't bring in any money, but I wouldn't consider him to be one of the top draws in the company, even at his peak.
As far as Reigns goes, my biggest gripe with him is that I just don't think he's ready. He seems like a really nice, earnest guy, but he hasn't done what almost every major guy in the company has done before: Paid his dues. Hart, Michaels, HHH, Rock, Austin, Cena etc, all had to start at the bottom and bite and scratch to get to the top. Even Hogan went to Japan to hone his craft.
Reigns, since he debuted, has been going over the biggest names in the company as part of the Shield. He hasn't had to languish in the mid-card, and he hasn't put in the time and effort that a lot of guys have, and who should be pushed before him. I'm not calling him lazy, I'm just saying he needs more time. He needs to work on promos. His selling is sloppy. His technique and range is very limited right now. He can improve. He should improve. I just fear he won't, and he'll end up as hated as Cena is right now.
So, Summerslam...
Miz and Ziggler was top drawer. One of the best examples of a true face v heel match, great psychology and back and forth, and right up until the end, I didn't know who was going to win. Two guys who are SEVERELY underrated imo.
Aj and Paige was a really good match. One of the best divas matches I've seen in a while. Surprising finish, but that DDT... Brutal looking.
Ambrose and Rollins had probably the match of the night. I hated that it was a Lumberjack match, but they totally changed my mind by using the lumberjacks the way they did. Ambrose got screwed, and can now take off his three months to make his movie.
Rusev going over Swagger? Never saw it coming, especially at Summerslam. Never would have considered it to be likely, and when that flag came down I was honestly expecting Kurt Angle to come out and **** Rusev up.
Jericho and Wyatt put on a good, solid match. Some nice spots, some nice psychology, and though the end wasn't a surprise, I thought it was well worked.
Stephanie v Brie? Predictable end, but I have to admit, Stephanie can go surprisingly well. It was no clinic, but she was every bit Brie's equal, and for a woman of her age, she was surprisingly solid in the ring.
Orton v Reigns... ****. The one disappointment I had all night. Orton brought out the best in Reigns and made him look like a ****ing star, and that RKO was a thing of beauty... But the match should have ended there. If Reigns has more matches like this, he'll be easier to stomach, but man... I really thought Randy deserved it for what was arguably the best individual performance of the night.
The main event... I have no words. Not really. I have never, in my almost quarter of a century watching wrestling, seen a champion get so utterly dominated in the ring. I don't know if it was Cena's choice or Vince's, but holy shit, Lesnar straight up mauled Cena. I seriously don't know what they're going to do, but I sincerely hope it isn't Reigns v Lesnar.
