I used to work in a pub [ not that anyone cares] Having 15 or so 18 - 19 year olds in, was a hassle. The older folks didnt like it and had to often tell the kids to sit down and shut the hell up.
They are rude, obnoxious, messy, immature [ and so where the 18 year olds] and think just cause they can legally drink that they dont have to follow orders.
Fights were breaking out here there and everywhere from kids hyped up on snakebite [which is illegal by the way]
The pub now only allow 21 year olds and over and has a more relaxed feel to it.
If you were 21 + and having to be told to sit down and shut up its more embarrassing for that person..

I don't think they should push it down that far. I think twenty would be a fair age to allow alcohol consumption. I personally think eighteen is a tad young. A lot of young adults (Especially here) still lack maturity to A) know their limit and B) not drink repetitively. The legal age to drink here is nineteen.
It's that age or lower in most countries yet you don't see such rampant teenage drinking problems in countries with lower drinking ages.
I also think it's kind of silly to turn 18 and be able to legally do pretty much anything...but one thing.

You also must remember; A lot of the countries have a strict moral code (Most EUROPEAN countries entitle young drinking, but inform their kids and enforce the rule about alcohol abuse and such.)
Not to mention the most common DA is 18.

I don't know what you refer to, but here it is different. Eighteen is the legal age to watch pornography and to have sex. Nineteen is to smoke/drink.
I think it's funny that young adults can have sex and potentially reproduce at a young age yet they can't knock off a few brain cells.
I think BOTH ages should be pushed up.

And THIS is the core of the problem, in my opinion.
In the US (which is what I have the most experience with, being as I've lived here my whole life), it's an attitude of "it's bad don't do it". No thought is given to actually explaining WHY it is bad, or teaching people about moderation, safe use, etc.

Never try to intellectually explain to a child how bad alcohol is. They'll look at it as forbidden and want it more. You've gotta use reverse psychology and make it a privilege at a young age so they don't have to strive for it.
