Poverty is a horrible thing. It's an evil phenomena. No one should suffer that way, it's a terrible waste, and will only cause misery. Probably an excuse from the Church to keep others low in power.

But this teaching was before the reformation. It is of the wealth of the church. THEE only Christan Church at the time. And, it is still followed today at the expense of the parishioners.

I disagree with your assumption about poverty. Unless...what level of poverty are you talking about?

What are you, retarded? The vow of poverty is a vow of sacrifice, a gesture that shows devotion to God instead of the temporary pleasures of this world.
I said Poverty is a horrible thing. Are you going to argue that it's good ? 😬
The gesture is stupid. God, who is almighty, needs nothing from you. Helping others speaks louder than symbolic gestures. 👇

so what should I do ?
1) Give up my money $$$- therefore, I cannot supply others with anything. I cannot start programs, nor run charities. I must rely on others now.
2) Give away all my food- Now I cannot eat on my own. I must beg for food. Hopefully, I stay alive long enough so I can feed and supply for others. Especially my children.
3) Surrender my home- Now I'm REALLY serving God. I'm going all out baby ! No home either ! I live on the street now, and we all know that from here, I can work wondors. People will totally take me seriously, and trust what I have to say. On top of that, I can use all this free time to supply others with homes.
Yes !
Let me FIX the Problem, by BECOMING THE PROBLEM !
Oh yes ! Ingenius ! Simply genius ! Why didn't I see this before ?!?!?
Nellinator, I love you, but a here's a big:

1) Starting up programs and helping the poor is what you should do with your money. This is a sacrifice. It does not mean cutting off your influx of money so that you can continue to provide for yourself or others.
2) No, it just means feeding others. Poverty in this case would not mean causing yourself to suffer, but rather to simply not live in material excess when it can be better spent on helping others.
3) It doesn't mean sacrificing your home either. The definition of poverty you are obviously using infers living below minimal standard of living which is then subjective to the area you are from. In Canada and America the vast majority of impoverished people live in homes anyways. That would not be the point of taking a vow of poverty. It would be supply yourself to live healthily so that you can continuously serve, while not living in excess simply because you can.
If look at the Bible, Paul tells the Christians to keep their jobs and their houses so that they can serve the poor and provide lodgings to people who need it.

Okay, a misunderstanding on my part. I simply do not agree with the "Poverty Vow"
I do not see how letting go of my possessions will serve God. It may help me focus on the goals of helping people acheive prosperity, as to not become obsessed with personal gain, but letting go of my own earned possessions will not help me help others gain anything.
I do not like the way you translate the word "poverty". Giving money to another person does not make me poor. In fact, it suggests that I have enough to give in the first place.
Poverty, true poverty, is having nothing and no one to help you. That's a high level of suffering, and there's nothing glorious about it.

Cripes. Because taking a vow of poverty is the same thing as being destitute. Similarly, taking a vow of silence is the same thing as being mute. And taking a vow of abstinence is the same thing as having one's genitals removed.
I give up. I really do.
