Do we know that Hitler killed and tortured, for fun?
imho, from a Nazi perspective, the death was pragmatic, and not joyous, unless from the joy of having a "jewless" society, which would be a byproduct of the pragmatic murder.
Like, I think we can take Hitler at his word when he describes Jewish conspiracies and how they were destroying German society.

Hitler was high most of his rule. His view was skewered by opium induced delusions. His physician also treated him with cocaine. Hitler was crazy. He got joy out of the suffering of the jewish people because he hated them and thought they were evil. Here's a great link with various reasons as to why hitler hated jews and other races. And your use of the word pragmatic seems to be wrong. You're saying they used the murders as a means to an end. The means to an end was to be powerful and form a joyous country. So the happiness isn't a byproduct of it, it's the driving force behind it. But seriously, he knowingly, willfully, and joyfully ordered the murders of millions of innocent men, women, and children just to fulfill his own insane ideals. He may not have thought himself evil, but unless you support murdering of children for no reason other than the fact you don't like them, then you have to admit he was evil and crazy.

Your 'Times' source doesn't mention any personal enjoyment derived from ordering the extermination of the Jews and has nothing to suggest that his motive was the ultimate destruction of Jews simply for the destruction of Jews. The given reason of 'they're plotting against us' and the need for a common enemy (to consolidate political power) is the most reasonable explanation we have. Unless you have a quote saying that he was in it for the killing?
You still haven't responded to my post:

So you would argue that the action is irrelevant, as long as the intent is good? You've said that killing for one's own pleasure is one thing (evil). Would you say that killing for a different reason is another (good)?

A bunch of speech analysists tried to recreate what Hitler said in a bunch of private videos Ava Braun took at his "retreat".In one he is even flirtatiously joking that he should be the one taping her. OMFG, Hitler was human.
I saw that program. He even made fun of Garbles and his cult thing. 😂
As they say method to madness. Hitler performed evil actions for a "good" cause. He's not even the worst and most abominable member of the Nazi Party.
However I don't find many noble or interesting qualities in the man beyond his charisma. Now Goebbles...there is a man who, despite his actions, was very intriguing and admirable in some areas.
