What are the most intelligent horror flicks?

My choices would be

"Donnie Darko".
"The Others".
"Pin...".
"May".
"Love Object".
"Silence of the Lambs".
"Manhunter".

Donnie Darko is not exactly a horror film... fab film though.

"The Devil's Backbone"

Silence of the lambs was amazing and should be first in the list

May
The Fly (Cronenbergs)
28 Days Later
Audition
Dawn of the Dead (Original)
Salo
Cemetery Man

Slither... yes its a grand joke..... i have no other comment.

Session 9
Phantoms
Jacob's Ladder
In The Mouth of Madness

by Intelligent .. do you mean it just has a witty intriquet story ? or are you laying more emphasis on Originality ? or you looking for both ?

Candyman
Event Horizon
The Fly (1986)
