in fact, i need to buy that film. aint seen it in a while

It's being remade, which means that they may be re-releasing the original on DVD, with new extras and stuff.

The current DVD release is pretty bare bones.

Great movie, though.

The Thing (Carpenter Re-make) is one I agree with.

I would say anything that was made by the director of the movie "The Birds" Hitcock!jm

Jacob's Ladder!

I'd probably say one intelligent one that I really liked, was The Last Horror Movie.

After watching it, I really wanted to start........killing people. *shrugs*

high quality, intelligent and disturbing (but without cheap gore/shocks):

pontypool
funny games

The original Funny Games is fantastic.

Many have already been mentioned, but they're so good they should be mentioned again:

The Wicker Man (1973)
Alien
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Psycho (1960)
Shadow of the Vampire
Dead Ringers

there's something oxymoronic about the term "intelligent horror".

For the majority yes.

M ( 1931)
This is probably the only horror film that made me actually sit there after the movie and think about what I just saw.
