Should swaer words be banned in rap?

No more bad words for rap

Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons wants to remove offensive words from the recording industry.

A righteous cause, no doubt, but na. It's not gonna happen. Unless he wants to tamper with violating the constitution.

I say if you don't wanna hear or read swear words in rap the don't listen to it or read it.

Bam problem solved.

In my opnion:

Freedom of speech is being eliminated so that is pretty much it.

But, they should really ban all explict lyrics that are just unecessary. The N word is up to them, I have no saying on that part.

Thing is, you cant define "unnecessary."

Dumb idea.

How about removing commercial RnB and Hip Hop from the recording industry

Thats a cause that gets my nod

The words "commercial" and "Hip-Hop" to me are like water and oil, so I'm all for that separation.

That said, he only cited three words if you read the article. It's more of a call to arms in the "Hip Hop" industry to clean up their act. If anyone actually took this to heart, and it was reflected in their music, I'd be satisfied. There's no place for mysogeny or racism in music, especially as nonchalantly as the phrases are tossed around in a rapper's lyrics.

Re: No more bad words for rap

Then its just not rap anymore.

Yeah, a lot of people claim that rap is nothing but putting-down women and and talking about violence and shit, and as much I hate to admit it; they have a point. All rappers dont say that stuff, but enough do it, so its not a farfetched claim.

I love your sig, homes. 😎 Although, I dont think white does that Ponnie justice. Black or silver would be more suitable colors. And maybe some vinyls on the rear panel.

Re: No more bad words for rap

im not a fan of rap but.......if your gonna single out rap.....u have an issue that probably does NOT pertain to the music itself.....most METAL bands say worse stuff than a lot of rappers do....besides.......theres a freedom of speech involved...

eyeless is my alt

You'll get banned if you get caught.

Anyway, why say most metal bands? That's an unfair generalisation.

rap peaked in 92 and has been going round in circles since
the beats were always based on the past but nearly 30 years on since Flash its the same as it ever was
its ok if your new to the scene i spose but after a decade or so its stale as ****
its responsible for a nation of ****wits in baseball caps an all

its funny how now that Simmons has made his millions from rap that he now wants a ban on b1tch n1gger and i assume ho
how about one in 86 Russel when you put together the Beastie Boys Licsensed to Ill tour

Curse words, again, aren't what's in question. It's the racism/misogyny angle.

He made his fortune on Hip Hop. Def Jam, first and foremost, has always been a Hip Hop label. When he left and sold his share in '99 is when things turned ugly in the genre. He was hardly involved in the everyday functions of the company, having focused more on his clothing line and the other "Def" branches, like poetry and stand up.

I'm not following on your Beastie Boys point, though. That was their only album with Def Jam, it was produced by Rick Rubin, and they toured on that ablum for like 3 years with RUN-DMC and LL Cool J. I don't remember ANY of those groups having objectionable material at the time.

I disagree with Banning Explicit Lyrics, but I do think sometimes it is overused. Curse words dont make music any better, they just sound contraversial, and have shock factor.

And Racist lyrics just need to go period.

I personally don't find it shocking when I hear swearing.

how about "no bad words" in music period?
🙄

this country blows the horns of the semi-thought out concept of freedom of speech and in doing so has forgotten all about every individual's very natural right to freedom from speech.
