Gloom doesn't make it dark. His power causes blindness. It seems to be preceeded by some sort of darkness but that doesn't have to be maintained for the blindness to stay.

He hit Sage and Bishop with his power and blinded them for a bit. I'm looking through his apperances in Xtreme right now to see if I can find a limit.

He had a good 10-20 appearances in the xmen comics and a few more in the B.A.D Girls comics where he had his axe, he's got a few appearances in that mini-series with all the darkforce characters in it. I THINK he was in Deadpool/cable with BAD girls, I'm not sure, though.

I found one more "apperance". It's in NewAvengers #18. It consists of his name appearing on a computer screen.
