"invented" might be a stretch... unless you are talking about a very specific and narrow definition of fascism which in many ways is not nearly as bad as the oligarchy, monarchies, theocracies, authoritarianism, feudalism and totalitarianism we have seen through history. At least political "fascism" understands the nation and its people as something the leader has to serve, as opposed to subjects being the literal property of the powerful.
